I noticed the last time I washed my sportage and cleaned the inside, that the rear passage chrome piece on the door is bubbling (on the inside seam) and the steering wheel wrap is coming apart. I took it to my dealer and they said, this is the 1st time they had seen this. The dealer just ordered new chrome pieces and a whole new steering wheel. They said, they will call me when parts come in then they will set up an appointment to have them install. Has anybody else had any of they issues?
yes, there have been others, but this issue seems to only apply to 2011 sportages. at least as far as i can tell.
ok, i'm not usually the one to say this, but there are at least 5 other threads about this in this sub-forum alone. i don't even have to go back that far to find one.. seriously..

On my 2011 SX I had the steering wheel peeling off in my hands. I first thought that my hands were dirty and I was rubbing the dirt on to the steering wheel and then over time it would rub back off onto my hands. Mostly this was at the 10-ish and 2-ish points on the wheel. After a long trip to Florida I noticed it wasn't my hands being dirty but the wheel was peeling off. My dealer didn't even waste time with this issue. They looked at the wheel and went back in the office and ordered me a new steering wheel. Got it in a few days and I have had it for about 4 ~ 5 months now with no issues.
KIA, I believe, changed the leather steering wheel type in the 2012 model that is probably the reason there seems to be no issues with the 2012 year.

my steering wheel is not leather or leatherette as far as i can tell. the texture is "pebble-like" or has a grippy texture that is not slick or glossy at all.
What was the texture of the material of your original steering wheel in you 2011?

I would be curious to know at what point for the 2012's did they change this. Is it all of them or somewhere down the VIN chain?
Example, I think online for the US, the mirror with tinting, homelink, and a compass is part of the premium package (which mine has), but all I got was the tinting and homelink, I had to get a different one with the compass. So guessing that changed somewhere after the first 2012's were made...

just for a reference point, i bought my SX in september. It had 1 mile on it.
It came with the auto-tint, homelink, compass mirror. Also, i don't have nav, and i got leather. No lights or heated wheel/side mirrors, but i think the front has the fast(er) defrost feature (ie, a wire embedded in the glass below the point you can see.
Lemme know if i can tell you anything else? vin? etc..

I too am having this problem. Right from the day I left the lot. Can other posters who have had this issue please send me their dealer, and number on their work order that they had it done? My dealership is giving me the run around over it, as per usual. FYI. If anyone here is from Ottawa, don't buy from Bank Street Kia. Worst experience from a dealership ever...
