Default Downhill assist/Traction Control light turning on

Sometimes, the downhill assist and traction control light is turning on and staying on until I start the vehicle next day (if I shutdown the vehicle and start it up immediately, it will still show up those two lights on, however, If the vehicle stays off for like 30 minutes, after I start it up again, they will not show up).

What problem could this be?

Take it to the dealer, it is under warranty. It is most likely going to be a brake switch, but there are numerous other things that could cause the warning lamps to illuminate.

by saying it is most likely a "brake switch"...do you mean that a brake bulb is out or you something else?

The switch on the pedal that is applied when you step on the brake. If the light is off now, it means everything checked ok. It was probably just a momentary fault, which is why the light is out now, but there should still be codes stored so your dealer can pinpoint the issue.

that's the thing...that both lights turn on at some point while driving the vehicle and stay on until I shut off the car for at least like 30 minutes...then over the week they will turn on again..it just doesn't happen everyday, but it happens random. Anyway, I will be taking it to the dealer and write here the results so everyone benefits if they encounter the same problem at some point.

I had the same issue and it was the brake switch. Took the dealer about an hour to swap it out.

I have also had those lights appear momentarily. Once only. I will let the dealer know.

Hi, I've just joined this forum to see if anyone was having the same problem as me with the downhill assist and ESP warning light coming on. At first it was an intermittent fault that gradually remained on. I purchased a new Sportage3 with sat nav in November 2011 after waiting 3 months for it. It has had this problem since February 2012 and has been into the dealership 3 times so far. The first time they said it was a brake sensor which they replaced. Four hours after bringing the car back the light came on again. It went back into the dealers on 24th April they were told by Kia technical support to change a module behind the dashboard and replace it with a new one. On their road test they found that the fault was still there and other faults were now showing. Kia tech support then told them to check a 1 foot section of wiring loom behind the dash. They found a twisted and broken wire. This was repaired and on the road test the warning light still came on. Now Kia Tech support has told them to replace the wiring loom. The car remains in the workshops with the dashboard stripped out whilst the parts are ordered. I will keep you posted as to it's progress (or lack of progress!)

I came on here looking for this exact problem, well almost. When those lights come on about 75% of the time I can't switch out of park as the shift lock has somehow mysteriously been enabled. I noticed today a soft ticking noise (best way i can describe it) coming from the dash and when that sound goes away i can shift even if the lights are on.
