Exclamation ESC and DBC Lights On Issue

Let me first say that I went through all 21 pages and wasn't able to find anything so if I did miss it, please accept my apologies in advance.

This morning, around 9:30AM, I was backing out of my garage and realized that my ESC (Electronic Stability Control) indicator light was on and that my DBC (Downhill Brake Control) light was on and red.

Startled, I shut the car off and turned it back on and it went away. As I was pulling out of my driveway, they came back on. Pushing the buttons did nothing. I didn't notice any issues while driving so I don't know if I should be alarmed.

I haven't been able to find anything online regarding this issue either.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same issue this morning, only it didn't happen until after I got off the highway and started driving locally. I parked the car, shut it off and waited a few minutes before restarting it. The lights came on for a few seconds and wouldn't let me put the car in gear. After several attempts to get it into reverse, I began driving and the lights went away. I will be contacting KIA first thing this morning.

After dropping my car off over night to have KIA diagnose the problem, a tech called to tell me that they replaced the brake light switch just like MikDee's posting had mentioned.

Same issue with my 2011 Sportage! I'm actually a little happy to see that I'm not the only one.... Has this problem affected your ability to start the vehicle? I will get into my car after it has been parked for a few hours, press the ignition button and then I press the ignition button again, and again, and again.....

I was going to suggest brake light swith as well. My ESC light came on and would go off randomly took it to the dealer, and they changed the switch. Been light free ever since.

Default Update

I probably should have done this sooner so my apologies.

I have since taken my Sportage in and they replaced the faulty parts and everything was fine, until two days ago.

As I was pulling into my garage, the lights came on again. I shut the car off once parked and waited a few minutes. Restarted and they were on then gone. The next day, they were back.

I have contacted Kia and am just waiting for a day off to go in and have it addressed again along with the following problems:

1. ESC and HAC lights on
2. SatRadio still saying acquiring signal frequently (Kia replaced antenna once already)
3. When pushing the gas pedal, it doesn't always make the car move

I just hi 10K miles on Saturday (Christmas Eve) and have had the car since August of 2010. It's in great condition mechanically speaking, or so I assume.

I will post an upate once I get to the service department.

Exclamation Having a similar issue

I have had a few issues with my 2011 Kia sportage SX and have started a log on my iPhone for any future documentation I might need if this vehicle that I really like continues to be in the shop more often then on the road. I am just going to copy and paste what I currently logged in my Kia journal. Any assistance would be great.

12jan2012@0804- While from a stopped position and in park I attempted to put the car in drive and it would not engage. *I shuttle car off and on again and it worked but the DBC indicator came on and was red for 15 seconds and finally turned green but I could not disengage DBC via the push button on the dash. *I attempted to drive and it did not seem to effect the car. *Drove about 100 yards and stopped again and I was able to disengage. *This was all on a flat parking lot.

Just an update if anyone is following this.

Again today after work around 4 PM, the DBC (downhill indicator) came on and stayed on red along with the ESC lamp. Both state in the manual to take car to local Kia dealership. Additionally, I couldn't take the car out of park when I got home.
