6speed auto tranny w FWD does not shift into 6th gear
I finally noticed that 6speed automatic transmission on my 2011 Sportage LX L4 Gas while on the freeway/highway does NOT shift out of 5th gear into 6th (final) gear. I just switched the smart shifter over to the left to see what gear the tranny is in (D turns into a number of gear).
I'm watching my freeway speeds at 65mph and the engine seems to be around 2300rpm's.
Tried to force it into 6th gear but the smart shifter won't let go into that gear even when I'm on a flat or down hill grade.
I'm guessing that getting it into 6th gear while cruising would help get better gas mileage.
Anybody else notice this?
The modified ECU overrides might help, but I wonder if KIA has an ECU update that would help get it into the final gear when the engine load allows it?

when I'm up there in cruising speed I see the ECO light, I switch to the left I see "6" in the shift indicator. Sounds like you may need a re-flash/update. Good luck.

Yes, I noticed something like that on my 2005 Tucson LX V6 AWD, and on my 2010 Tucson & my latest 2011 Sportage EX AWD as well! But, eventually it would upshift into 6th gear, I can force it into 6th gear, except on a hill, or if it's below 40mph., IMO, These vehicles like to hang in 5th gear alot, and from my testing, I've saved gas by constant correction, but it is annoying. Anyway, that's probably why they're all so peppy. Your vehicle sounds like it needs a reflash? Maybe if you disconnect the (underhood drivers side relay box) ECU fuse for awhile, it may relearn your driving pattern?

Yes, I'm watching that the ECO light comes on and that my auto tranny is in gear # 6 when I'm flying on the freeway. My report of it not shifting out of 5th gear was from a slight grade on the freeway. I made sure I was on a flat run of the freeway and re-checked the trans indicator and it was in "6" th gear.
I'm wondering if I can change a gear in the rear end to get the rpms down a few hundred while at the 65mph speed.
Or it better to alter the shift points via the ECU/computer?
