Question $5K Incentive..

Local dealership is claiming on the radio to offer a 5K incentive towards the purchase of a new Kia, with ANY trade-in, they don't care what.

Has anyone else heard of a similar deal in their area? I've emailed for more data, but this incentive is enough to drive me (no pun intended) towards a new Sportage EX that I might not have gotten otherwise. 20-22K is a lot more affordable than 28K.

I'm assuming they'll find the $5K somewhere else (trade-in value), however I'm "plus" on my vehicle per the last 4 dealerships.. so who knows. I've emailed for more info.

Just curious if anyone else has seen this. I can't find anything online from Kia, the dealership, edmunds, or anywhere else that this incentive exists anywhere.

EDIT: Just realized probably would serve better somewhere else on the site. I've just been lurking in this forum since its the ride I would most likely get.. Feel free to move mods, if you feel it belongs somewhere else.

Yeah, they have to find it somewhere. Trade-in, financing kickbacks, somewhere. If that is the case I would push in a Craigslist beater and hold them to their deal. I imagine they would clobber me with fine print.

I just bought a 2011 LX locally (Durham NC USA) and got a decent deal by getting the Consumer Reports pricing report. It shows all the current incentives available (like Military, Competitive Owner, Owner Loyalty, various financing deals) and estimates dealer holdback so at least I know I'm not getting soaked. It also lists dealer cost and MSRP for options so I could level the playing field when

A local dealer in Orlando has that offer. That is only if you pay full price for the car and most of the kias here in Orlando have 3000 above msrp on the sticker just for that purpose. We also have a guy who says he will give you an iPad but that is also only if you pay full price. It is rather frustrating....but you can get there with some of them.

Oh yeah, the 1st dealer I went to did have an extra sticker up in the car with a bunch of junk like "1st paintless dent removal visit" along with the standard worthless rustproofing and stuff. Bumped up the MSRP sticker by another $2000. That 2nd sticker didn't even have numbers that totaled up to $2000, it just had a list of stuff and a new MSRP on there.

I ended up negotiating my best deal with their internet sales manager (telling them to forget any extra crap, give me an out the door number)... Then took it to another less shady dealer for the same thing in the color I wanted + a couple of hundred more in options.

I'm always wary of dealership driven incentives to bring people in the door. Usually it only pertains to paying sticker MSRP. The dealer I worked with offered a $2500 internet price, but in the fine print only said pertains to all incentives in MSRP. I would only go by the manufacturer incentives and negotiate based on the invoice price.

I found the car I wanted on the lot and noted the package and options. I build the same vehicle on the Kia website to arrive at the same MSRP. I took those specs and got the invoice price from edmunds and yahoo autos. Dealer knew it too, and they offered $300 under invoice. In the end, I still paid less than sticker price with taxes and fees included.

This place in NShas similar offers. Summit Hyundai

On their radio ads

They offered $1,500 for any trade. "ANY!!!!!!!"

They offered $3,000 for the junk in the trunk trade.
(they would give $3,000 for any trade where the trunk was filled with junk)
the ad suggested going out to the barn and filling the trunk with old stuff.

They claim to have a "credit for the people program" where any one can be financed. no matter what.

I would be amazed if anyone is able to get the dealers that are offered and still pay a decent price on the car they want.

This one has been advertising "50% OFF MSRP!!!"

Oh, wait - read the fine print.

That's just plain dishonest.
