Default Body Control Module

So I just got my fiance's 2011 Sportage back after 7 1/2 days at the dealer. So far, they've had the vehicle one more day than we have (been back twice). Hopefully smooth sailing from here.

Just wanted to post the problem and the solution as the dealer (and Kia dealer technical support) had a hell of a time finding it.

One evening we parked the vehicle, closed the doors and I pressed the request switch on the handle to lock the doors. As the turn signals flashed to signify an armed alarm, the rear and side turn signals on the driver side stuck on, not flashing, just constantly on. By the next morning, they were still on. I did some basic troubleshooting and then dropped the car off with the dealer. Over the next week it exhibited various problems with exterior lighting but oddly enough, the vehcle's computers reported no problem.

Yesterday the problem was diagnosed as a faulty body control module. Expensive, hard to replace, and near impossible to diagnose. I cant imagine this would be an isolated problem so if anyone else has exterior lighting issues, have your dealer check this first. It will save you from driving the nearest rental agency's POS-of-the-day for a week....

Just got a call from Kia Motors America. Very nice woman was checking on the vehicle, etc. Because they had the car for so long and because of the number of initial problems we've had, Kia is sending us a check equal to one month's payment as a good-faith gesture. Now this is a company that wants my business! I think next time we are ready for vehicles for work, Kia's definitely getting my business!

Great to hear that:
1. The problem has been diagnosed and (presumably) fixed.
2. Kia seems to actually CARE. A sentiment other car manufacturer's could well take a lesson from.

And thanks for sharing in case it should happen to others.

Old enough to know better . . . . too old to care!
