Hi All,
I have taken my Sportage for a 7,500 kms. supplimentary service knowing its a brand new car needs to change oil for some dirt iron filing etc. Since I dont trust them apprentice in their workshop and in any other workshops of a dealership for that matter, I marked my oil filter cartridge if they truly doing their job that we paid for and Wala their not. THEY ALSO DAMAGE THE PLASTIC COVER FORCING THE SCREW NOT ALIGNED MAKING A BIG HOLE THAT NEED TO USE A WASHER TO HOLD IT.Car is BRAND NEW ,do not deserve this kind of treatment .I was even charged with an oil filter changed , a dollar for a screw washer. Make sure you mark it before taking it to them. They change the oil but it was all over the rocker cover and splashed to exhaust manifold smoke/burnt smell went in to the cabin . Soooo frustrated I will be writing to Fair trading for some advice.

Did you look a the filter itself? There is a good chance marks you made would line up AFTER they change filter.

But, even then, the only service I personally trust is the one I do myself.

Warranty should be honored as long as you have receipts for oil/filter with appropriate dates on receipt. pictures of receipts are best as paper deteriorates quickly, especially those thermal prints. Keep an Excel spreadsheet (or equivalent) of dates, mileage and service done for records as well.

I purchased an extended warranty from my canadian dealer. One of the item of the contract states EXPLICITLY that I cannot do the maintenance myself (even if I keep the receipt of the oil/filter purchase). You might want to watch for those (especially if you purchase an extended warranty).

Yes I will be happy when the warrenty expires so I can maintain the car myself...

Call KIA Aussie and ask, ask for a letter to confirm whether you can or cannot do oil changes yourself. It should be fine to it without voiding warranty, nowhere does it say you cannot do it, or dealer has to do it, or even an authorized mechanic.

Owners Manual implies one can do routine maintenance themselves. Oil changes are easy and cheap-ish and are just fine to do by owner (unless owner is a dufus).

Sounds like you need to have a (subdued) word with your Service Manager. Let him know your doubts and concerns and gauge from his response your next move.
Speak with the dealer principal if you are not happy . . . and if all else fails, go to another Kia dealer for advice - they will probably bend over backwards to get your service $$$.
Not all service centres are the same - some still have a bit of care factor left. I, personally, have no problems with my service centre other than I had to lay down the law (refuse to pay!) early on for items like windscreen washer fluid, etc., that I was NOT going to pay for. Even tyre rotation, wheel alignment, brakes, etc., I will always get done at an outside provider to avoid a dealer's harsher charges.

The paint on various assemblies is done at the factory and is an inspection mark, indicating that in this case a worker installed an oil filter, installed the cap then dabbed the blue paint on so any visual check would confirm that. Sometimes it can be used as an indicator of movement of the assembled parts when the marks do not align, but that is an incidental function. In this case the mechanic re-tightened the oil filter cap and it ended up by chance in alignment with the inspection mark. He may have done it on purpose - some mechanics are like that. :) I couldn't tell from the pictures what was meant by the concern over the 'screw and washer'.

Why would any service tech at a dealership risk his or her job and not replace the oil filter cartridge? Why would a KIA dealership risk a major claim or law suit and their reputation by not replacing a oil filter that cost them a couple of dollars at most? It just makes so little sense for any KIA dealership not to change your oil filter when they do an oil change. If you really don't trust them to properly do your LOF, then you should do your business elsewhere!

I am sure that with one look at your oil stick, you will know that the oil was changed.

Hi All,
this one been sorted out I was there when they put the car up , I have debated this to the manager as there was no trace of any kind that housing was disturb, finger print , oil ,wipes etc. I won, it was dirty . They replaced it anyway. Now they clean up the oil spill as well .

I think the answer to that is they reckon we don't checked our cars after service, some cars have covers and some couldn't be bothered checking , once you left the garage its considered it done. How many of us check their oil after service as well as filters ( old can filter whatever you call it).
Good luck to all ,if you let them rip you off . One more service with them, I mean other service workshop , the next one I will be doing it my self.
Thanks all for your comments.
Cheers
