Yes, yes you should. (dumb answer to a dumb question)

We all know that driving style affects mileage. However you shouldn't have to baby a car to get close to the stated mileage. I drive my car. I don't drive it hard and I don't feather the pedal either. I just drive like I have every other car for the last 35 years. My mileage has gotten WORSE since new. I was getting 8 - 9 L/100km combined (but mostly city) when new, and now am regularly getting 10 - 11 L/100km. My driving style HASN'T CHANGED. Same driver, same car, same conditions, worsening mileage.

I love my Rio. But one of my major purchase decision factors was fuel economy. I knew I wouldn't get the stated mileage, but I'm not even in the same ballpark at this point.

And for the record....I HAVE tried driving like a granny using ECO mode and still don't achieve the rated mileage.

You realistically also will NOT get better mpgs than the manual states, unless you have done some engine upgrades to increase power at the same load.

Winter gas could explain it - yes, even for Surrey. Less energy per liter for the winter blend.

All I know is that I'm getting way better mileage than I did in my Subaru WRX Wagon, avg'ed 20.5 per gallon in that thing. My Rio5 has averaged 32mpg so far.

My own experience: you HAVE to baby this car to get close to the stated mileage. That's what I did this summer: feather foot, grandma driving style and all and I did get better mileage. Zero driving fun. Forget about following the traffic. Forget about the center lane. Stay in right. Don't drive over 90km/h. Don't use AC, don't even think about opening the windows and don't dare touching the sunroof button. But then you get interesting mileage. Marleyfan you said it: baby this car. I add: drive like a grand grandma and the numbers are there. Kia is right. If you like that kind of driving...

Here are my stats over the last 12 fill-ups (2 months, give or take). These were determined using the odometer between fill-ups and not using the on-board computer or trip tracker. I've been driving the car since April, 2012.

General Information:
Code:
Car Model: 2012 Kia Rio 5-door Hatchback SX with NAV
Last Odometer: 17,352 km
Tank Capacity: 43.2 L
Driving Mode: Eco (with lots of manual)
Distance/day: 79 km
Predicted Range: 534 km
Total Distance: 4,877 km
Total Time: 2 months, 1 day
Mileage History:
Code:
Avg L/100: 8.094
Max L/100: 8.616
Min L/100: 7.682
Last L/100: 8.257
Avg $/L: $1.338
Min $/L: $1.269
Max $/L: $1.464
Last $/L: $1.299
$'s/km: $0.108
$'s/fillup: $47.96
$'s/day: $9.28
Km's/$: 9.23
L's/fillup: 35.85
Days/fillup: 6.0
Km's/fillup: 443.38
Total L's: 430.21
Total Records: 12
Total $'s: $575.53
Food for thought ...

BTW, the reason I posted my stats is as context for my question. How many liters are you filling up every time? In my case, I fill up on average 35 L. Therefore, my distance is based on that many L's, not over the full tank.

@Rosscofat, I assume your comment it to the OP. If it is directed to me, I don't sweat it at all. I am having a great time driving my car and customizing it. The stats are driven by my analytical half and good information for enquiring minds.
