Default Wishing I had a Map Light

Folks,

Like many others I am intrigued by these nice bright LED map lights. But unlike most others I haven't a fixture to begin with. The LX blues as it were (the things I would do for a manual 6 speed).

Does anyone know where I could source such an add on (OEM)? Could this be a very difficult install??? Could I borrow power from my dome light?

Thanks in advance

you can get map lights that will plug into your 12V sockets with a flex line on it.

Ha . . . . would you? But srsly, there should be a way to get what is likely installed in the upper trim levels. I am guessing that the part itself is probably not too expensive. Though the concept of penetrating the headliner makes my heart hurt.

I thought about this too. However, I never got to pulling down the headliner to see what I could potentially mount lights to. I considered putting the map lights from an early 90's Suburban in my Rio. However I'll probably wait a few years for the warranty to expire and find something in a yard.

I wonder if this is a task the dealer might perform thusly not risking warranty issues. Seems like a long way to go for a light, but I dig my car and it I would enjoi the feature.

Hmmmmm . . . . makes me wonder how universal in nature the harness is . . . it looks like there is blue tooth and non but it is possible there is already a stub for Map light and fancy mirror.

I accomplished this mission for $12 took me less than an hour.
got the Kia RIo 2003 twin map light with sunglasses holder and even color matches. from the junk yard
Pick-n-Pull Locations check their car inventory use 2003-2005 map light.
it fits purrrfect on the hump where the map light suppose to go on new kia rio5 2013 LX
wiring is simple just connect it to center dome light and run it thru the celing toward the front after you taken off visors, visor holders and rear view mirror, you can tell right away the lip of the upholstery ceiling gently pull it down to reach wiring you ran from dome light. I taped wiring to a tent pole is flexible, thin and sturdy to push wire to front from the center domelight after you unscrew n remove the center dome light fixture. them make an smaller outline of 2003 map light fixture, and trace with pencil on the hump of ceiling and saw the hole out. i used a wine bottle opener on one side has a small saw lol. make the initial hole smaller then it shud be so you can work your way out a little at at time. then when is perfect fitting and centered connect wiring to map light test it to make sure turns on and mount it on ceiling, screw back the visors, their holders n mirror as well center dome light and enjoy. ps led from amazon for like $3 depending on size.
I will post better pix later. I also intaled 2 extra led lights in the trunk on each side cost $3 and super bright now. as well led on dome light for like $4 each i used 2 , even the glove compartment has led
