Is the supply of Rio 5-doors in Ontario as bad as it seems?
Hello all
I've had my eye on the Rio 5-door since the fall as a replacement for my aging Focus. The Focus lasted longer than I thought it would, but I recently had to put it down.
So I called the dealer I had been speaking to, we agreed on numbers and he asked me for three colour choices. As it turns out, the closest one is three weeks away! Today I went to three dealerships, and I saw only one 5-door (base LX with no A/C), and a few sedans. Dealers who have their inventory on-line show a similar situation. I'm looking for a manual, which I realize narrows my selection considerably.
Just wondering...
Thanks
Brian

I realize you are in Canada but the situation is the same here in the US. There are some LXs on dealers lots (not sure if stick or auto), very few EXs or SXs. I am in the NE part of the country but have randomly checked other areas of the country and these 5 doors are just not readily available. This has been the case since introduced. Seems that Kia is just not sending may to the US.
The situation with Hyundai Accents is similar. You can not get an SE (their top trim line) in a manual transmission and even the auto SEs are rare.
Makes me wonder if there are issues with the 1.6L GDI engine???? These cars share that same engine.
Now Rio has announced a 2013 Rio which will finally offer ISG Idle Stop and Go as an option, as well as a couple small changes. ISG was pushed big by Kia and was supposed to be available on later 2012s.
Not sure if they will stop sending 2012 5 door Rios. If anyone has any knowledge or opinions I would be interested in hearing them.
I was at the Toronto Auto Show a few weeks ago and the sales rep told me that all EX Luxury models will now be called SX, same as the US. As I would only want an SX model, they don't have any in stock in Canada. If you want an SX model, you would have to order one and it will be a 2013 model. This was confirmed by 2 dealers in the Toronto area. I have to admit, the SX is SMOKING..................especially in red.
I haven't seen not one new Rio nor Optima in GTA since they introduced 2012 models. I have seen 1 or 2 Fortes, though.
But there are plenty Hyundai Elantras, Sonatas and even Accents.
So MaybeKia will soon become NoKia. If there is no cars on the road that means sales are low or no cars in stock or it is a crappy car; therefore training and support from dealership will be crappy too...
I'm looking for an EX, with or without UVO. I want a manual transmission, so the SX is out.
I'm not seeing very many on the road either (Greater Toronto Area).
Thanks
Brian

I live in the GTA, Got a manual EX with UVO in Graphite. Had to order it in the Beginning of November, got it the beginning of January.
Bought from Longman's in Marham. Tried Newmarket Kia but they didnt seem interested in ordering. Just wanted to sell me what they had in stock.

Reason: Add info
I have ordered one, EX UVO in Silverstone Beige, manual. It's supposed to be here the first or second week of April. I'm just kind of surprised there are so few of them available. If I were seeing them on the road it would be a different story, but I see very, very few of them.
So were they ever in good supply? I guess not, since you ordered yours in November and got it January. That actually makes sense, as my dealer e-mailed me the end of December telling me he had some in stock. I'm guessing that was one of the first shipments. I had inquired about them in the October/November timeframe. I didn't pull the trigger as I was waiting for my Focus to die. It did.
