I just re-committed myself to my 2013 Rio5 EX ECO w/ 50k miles after dropping the idea to jump to a new fully loaded Soul with the Infinity system.
I liked the Infinity system. Sirius sounded great and was very fast to operate. I'd like to see it in my 2013 Rio5. But it won't be a bolt-in, plug and play.
My next thought was to do a double-DIN fascia and aftermarket NAV. But there are no headunits I'm happy with for my $500 max budget.
So now I'm turning to the 2014 (maybe 2015? if they improve it?) NAV from the Rio SX. So I have a few questions please.
Are there any impediments to hooking it up? Any CAMBUS concerns and/or security codes? Is there a NAV antenna already in my EX roof antenna base?
Does the NAV headunit have built in: Sirius? HD Radio? Is NAV MAP updates free?
I really appreciate your input. Or even directions if this is elsewhere as I have searched but noone seems to install the factory NAV units.
Hi i have a LX and i bought my Nav system off of ebay. It was pulled right out of a wrecked SX. IT was a simi plug N play because the radio thought the car was in reverse so it always showed a black screen with guidance lines. So i took it to a audo shop and they took care of it for me and now it works like it should but im guessing for you itll just plug in and work because your car has the factory camera.
Depending on where you get the radio from it can be pretty cheap. I ended up getting a new usb/AUX port because the NAV unit uses a different one with a different wire. Not sure if nav and uvo use the same or not.and i also had to get the bezel that had the cutout for the nav buttons.
I might be reading it incorrectly, but it is nowhere close to plug-n-play.
Pin-outs below (for 2014 units):
Navi has USB on a separate connector that you don't have, Camera on Connector A instead of Connector B, lots of differences in connector B.
Not saying you can't cut some of the Connector A wires on your car and splice them to Connector B wires (if those wires are pinned on your car) and make it work, but it doesn't look PnP to me...
Hey Daddy-O, quick and off topic. I damn near did the same thing. I almost went from my 2013 Rio 5 SX to a 2014 Soul SX Luxury (think all options possible included). In Canada they simplify the trim levels and move away from the exclamation mark. Also, I dig the name. I have a habit of saying 'cool beans daddy-o" for no good reason.
Thanks everyone. I've been sitting in the cockpit thinking things over and I haven't decided what to do yet.
I have to dig into KGIS and do a comparison of the headunits but I can say so far the RIO5 EX with UVO's antenna is not the GPS antenna of the SX.
So I'm still going back and forth over factory vs aftermarket, or keep the UVO and spend $200 on a nice 7" Garmin with free maps for life.
I guess I want a 8" headunit with HD, DVD, Lifetime Garmin NAV, rear camera, all for free and be PNP.
Not too much to ask is it?
Heck, last night on TV an 18 year girl in shorts showing off her tatoo'd thighs was given by her Grandaddy his custom '53 pickup and $15,000 for her upgrades, why can't I get a stinking free-and-easy NAV?
Garmin for $200 with free maps is a good option, IMHO ...
OEM SX Nav will be fairly expensive and a lot of work redoing the wiring (and I don't think it plays DVD's) (I think from KGIS, not according to Caleb - can't explain the differences).
In brand name aftermarket, you are only going to find a 7-inch screen, Kenwood has Garmin, Pioneer has the same map company as Garmin - either is about $200 for map updates.
I think taking the nav out of it and going with the Garmin is a good idea.
After that - the AliExpress unit gives you an 8-inch screen and iGo nav if you don't want to pull out the Garmin - could be a good option, but you need an Onyx or Stratus to play Sirius through it - personally, I'm wouldn't be really happy with the dash unit and then a standalone GPS and a standalone Sirius module and maybe a phone mount somewhere.
One other thought - if you have an Android phone, you could try Route 66 or Google Navigation or Copilot or Sygic on it, and if that works for you, with the Pioneer App mode, I think you can stream the phone display to the head unit - so you have navigation, easier (less expensive) map updates, and you wouldn't need the Garmin.
Yup Tiger, I stopped at a Best Buy store and decided the 7" Garmin was like having an iPad upright on the dash. Just too big. The 5" seemed to fit just right anywhere on the dash.
And then I wandered over to the flat panel radios...big mistake. I too like the Pioneer and the Kenwood for the prices. and I like a clean dash but $500+ bucks will buy alot of summer trip fuel.... Unhhhh.
Also checked into the rear view mirror GPS... the tech just isnt there yet and people didn't like the headlight glare off the mirror. Washed out the maps too...
Looks like a 5" Garmin and hide the wiring for awhile.... And some trips.
BTW..did some math...25,000 miles/year @ 50 mph average = 500 hours/year in the Rio. Thats a 40 hour work week for 3 months. See why I started this upgrade thread?

It's not that bad when you consider how much the OEM options would be - the navi radio is usually around $1000 OEM, the price difference for UVO vs. non-UVO is at least $500.
Essentially all you lose is a 6.1-inch screen instead of 7-inch, but personally, I think I'd spend the $100 extra on the bigger screen - as you say, you will be in the car three weeks a year ...
You COULD add navi to either radio for $349, but no free map upgrades, I don't recommend that, but the one advantage is the voice prompts interrupt the radio. With the Garmin, you either can't crank the tunes when you use it, or you have to get used to using the visual cues - but it's not that big a deal.
I have a 2013 Kia Rio LX and was wanting to install the factory NAV system. I was wondering for the bluetooth to connect my phone would I need to buy the factory microphone to use voice activation and to make calls?
I guess you did not read all the posts in this thread or you missed the part where this is not a straight forward swap.
It involves modifications to the factory wiring, in addition there is a harness plug that is apparently missing in the lower models.
