Default 2012 Kia Rio (Factory Backup Camera)

Is it possible to wire the factory backup camera to a aftermarket HU and or is there a adapter. On a few cars they make adapter that plug the factory wires into a rca.

I haven't tried it, but it doesn't look that difficult - OTOH - Rosscofat probably has and I don't have access to the car.

At the camera plug (above), I think you would just need to connect Pin 1 to the Reverse sense wire (or the camera power wire on the new head unit), Pin 4 to ground, Pins 3 and 6 to your RCA and run the wires to the new head unit.

I "think" pin 3 goes to the RCA center pin and pin 6 would go to the shield.

If you don't want to wire at the camera ...

I think it would just be Connector B Pin 7 to the reverse camera input of the new head unit, Connector B pin 23 to ground, Connector B Pin 6 to the RCA center pin, and Connector B Pin 18 to the RCA outer ring.

Metra sells a harness - Metra Online - it's for GM cars, but you should be able to cut the plug off and make it work if you don't want to cut and solder RCA patch cords.

Worst case, you should be able to remove the OEM camera and install something like these:

This seems hard to do. Probably just buy a new one.

Im guessing it would be equally as difficult to do this the opposite way. As in wire an aftermarket camera into a factory radio

@Rosscofat - I think the diagrams are both showing the same thing, though.

What happened when you tried it and do you have any idea why it didn't work.

@Caleb217 - I would expect the same issues with an aftermarket camera and the factory radio, but you should be able to use the OEM camera in that case. Although I'm confused - the camera won't work with a non-UVO (basic) OEM radio and AFAIK, Kia didn't offer a RIO with a camera-ready radio but no camera. ???

I installed the factory sat/nav and only thing missing is the back up camera. i ordered this in hopes of being able to splice into the factory video feed. Do you know where i could get the factory camera from and how it would be wired in

Factory camera -
Kia Parts Outlet -

It's about $300 - there might be better online prices - also the local dealer or E-bay or the junkyards.

Wiring - Rosscofat posted the schematic above - it looks like there are two additional harnesses between the radio and the camera - for a true factory install, you want to pick those up from the same sources as the camera - or you can run your own wires (but that means splicing into the factory warning and voiding any possible return on the $300 camera - usually electrical can't be returned anyway, though ...)

Found this on the veloster forum.

How to: Install a Backup Camera in your Veloster

One key thing I noted is the kit he used had something called a low voltage trigger module. If you can find that, the $25 E-bay camera will likely work, but ...
