Handbrake Adjustment

Hey folks,

At my place of work we have 2 Kia's. A D3 Sportage and a recent model Sorento.

Both of them have handbrakes slack to the point where they are fully sitting on the Parking brake, and will roll downhill if the parking brake is not applied.

I know it is a bit of a long shot since this model is so new but does anyone have any instruction on adjusting the Sportage's handbrake? I have already made a search and it only came up with people suggesting to take it back to the dealer.

Thing is where I live we are pretty 3rd world and the dealers only have a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty. Which is kind of crooked but I can understand why. Cars down here don't last and when they hit 30,000 miles on these roads they are really falling apart and have lived a hard life.

So my works cars are out of warranty and I am looking to bring our servicing business internally. I tend to do most of my work on my own vehicle (A 1993 93,000km, really beat, Suzuki Escudo) but with the work cars I would prefer to not experiment.

So it is handbrake adjustment.
Also the switch to fold the wing mirrors doesn't work. We are also in a battle with the dealer over that one.

I will post another one for the Sorento forum as that one's parking brake is in the foot well. The Sportage is your regular Hand brake.

Edit: Thanks in advance! I frequent the Suzuki forum, sister site to this so hopefully I will frequent here and give as much help as I ask for!

had mine adjusted this wek

with the hand type handbrake . it needs adjusting if it will pull more than 4 clicks . mine wouldnt hold at 7 but would at 8 . there is free adjustment within one year on the warranty if it clicks more than 4 times . the dealer told me its an hour job as they must remove the console . mine now holds at one click with no slack in the cable now . it was sloppy before . the adjustment must be at the handbrake its self rather than at the rear brakes on older cars
