I attempted to change my wiper blades today and was in for a bit of a surprise. First, no books at the auto parts store have size indications for 3G Sportage wipers. So I had to measure and got the following:
However, when I actually got to change them I noticed a few things.
The driver side wiper has a bolted on plastic guard on the underside of the blade facing the hood of the car. Does anyone know what this is for? I could try to take it off and bolt it onto the new blade, but the nuts are tiny.
The wiper on the rear is completely molded plastic, so I can't even swap it out with a standard blade.
Also, all blades had the Hyundai and Kia logos embossed in them. I assume I need the dealership to order these replacements.
I was really hoping to do this kind of maintenance myself and not get overcharged having the dealer do it.
I have used Rain-X wipers, but the regular ones not the 'Repel' ones, as I think they are a gimmick. I also don't see a difference in quality with the standard ones vs other brands. All brands seem to have the same quality and lifespan.
I usually replace mine every six months.
