Default Leaky Oil Filter

About how much oil drains out if I have to replace a new but leaky (faulty) oil filter on my Rio5?
I know its not cross threaded and its on really tight, the tightest I've ever put a filter on.

they take 3.4 L at an oil change, so im guessing half to three quarters of a litre. Are you using Kia filters or aftermarket filters? I havnt had any issues with KIA filters yet.

That little dinky filter holds half to three quarters liter? Not hardly, course a little might drain from above the filter. Why would you have a leaking filter? Been changing filters for 50 years and yet to have one leak, just lucky I guess. When you put the new one on remember just 1/2 to 3/4 turn after the rubber gasket touches. Good Luck

Spin the filter off and spin it back on, it may not have seated correctly I've had that happen before. Make sure the mounting surface is clean and the old gasket didn't stick to the engine. Its about 16 oz between the filter and what drains out off the engine. Just install your new filter if you need to and fill according to your dip stick until its full after you have run the engine.

This is my 1st time with a KIA filter and my first leak too.
I checked today and the leak is gone, I will check again tomorrow.
After seeing that it was leaking , I turn it an extra 1/8 turn and that seemed to do the trick.
Ive been changing my own oil for about 15 years and this is a 1st for me.

Only have done one oil change on my Rio and used a Mobil 1 filter. Going to change the oil & filter this week with a KIA filter, maybe I better check closer with this filter. I did notice the rubber seal is different than I'm used to.

Hey guy you're taking me wrong. I'm serious about the rubber sealing ring being a little different, and wondering if that might be why the poster was having trouble. Even thinking about buying another Mobil 1 filter and using it. Don't be so touchy chill out. However I still don't see how that much oil would drain out of that little filter.
