Default Trailer Hitch?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a trailer hitch for my 06 Rio5 does anyone know a good hitch? I need to tow a motorcycle trailer and possibly a 5x10 covered trailer.

Are there any factory mounting holes for the hitch?

I haven't seen any mounting holes under the trunk for a hitch but I have not been looking. Are you driving a stick or auto? I don't know if I would tow the covered trailer with the auto myself.

Check with your dealer. I know that Kia UK offers a detachable towbar but I'm not sure about North America. The dealer will be able to tell you. Not sure about the weight limit of the detachable towbar either.

I'll check with the dealer next time i'm there. I saw a couple on ebay but don't want to trust my motorcycle to them. As for weight i believe we are talking a max on 2000 lbs. I drive the manual trans i'm sure it would be very slow getting up to speed but i'm sure the 110hp could handel it...

I would check with the dealer regarding the max towing capabilities of the car itself as well. I know that it's not just the pulling power of the engine/transmission but also the stopping power of the brakes. You can tow a much heavier trailer if the trailer is equipped with brakes, if not then your towing capabilities are greatly reduced. Here are the towing specs from the Kia UK site (can't find any of these specs on Canadian or US sites):

1100kg = 2425lbs
453kg = 998 lbs

I put one of these on over the summer for a 6700 mile road trip. I used one of the hitch mounted racks and it pretty much doubled my cargo space.

Pretty much all the Class I hitches are rated for a tongue weight of 200lbs and towing weight of 2000lbs like this one. Installation was simple: there are 4 predrilled holes in the frame of the Rio. Just have to get the back of the car up a little higher off the ground, unhook the muffler, and it bolts right on. I did have to remove the middle clip of the plastic bumper because the way the hitch fits in with the support won't let you re-secure the screw in the middle support. The instructions called for that though, so it wasn't unexpected and it doesn't compromise the structural integrity at all. Then hook the bumper back on, and you're ready to roll. Etrailer has the instructions available on that page on the right hand side if you want to see the whole process.

I recommend this hitch because it was pretty inexpensive, made well, and gave me no issues on the whole trip (even after a curb scrape coming out of a gas station). I am leaving it mounted permanently, just so that if I need to carry something with the rack in a hurry or tow something small out of a hole, it is ready to go.

Also, I was told by the sales rep I talked to that Hidden Hitch and DrawTite are the same company now, so if you look at the pictures on etrailer, they are all the same just different prices. They're the same piece

HITCH-WEB LINK

Here are three, plus additional hardware.

The Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tire are listed as a "No Drilling" install.

I've bought from here before and they are a excellent place to do business.

When you look at hitches you will see a statement like:
"NOT INTENDED FOR USE WITH WEIGHT DISTRIBUTING ATTACHMENTS"

Don't worry about that. WD Hitches are the heavy duty hitches you use to tow ~3,500+ lb trailers. I have one on my 2500 Suburban for towing our 5,000 lb camper (10 mpg ). Smaller vehicles (2,500 lb towing or less) typically don't use or need WD hitch attachments.
