Starter motor not engaging occasionally

My 2006 Rio auto 1.6 has done 4500ks and on two separate occasions the starter motor has failed to engage properly when the ignition key was turned.

It causes that awful screech as the starter motor gears grate against the ring gear. The first time it happened the car had only done about 2000ks, the second time was today.

On both occasions, the car was at normal operating temp. and had been switched off for about 5 minutes.

Anybody else had this happen?

i have just over 10,000 mile on my car and it had started every time with just a tap of the key NP.

Actually...I remember this happening on mine...once.
