Hey guys I am the owner of a super clean 2005 Ebony Black Kia Spectra5.

It has 13k miles, and is babied with Zymol concours wax 2x a year. (expensive wax-$130) (Yes. I wax my kia with the same wax I use for my vintage show car)

Mobil 1 oil change every 3,000 miles.

Just good upkeep and maintenance...

Ok anyways... Why did I get the spec5?
Well....
I graduated college and needed a daily driver/ I just did not want to ever drive my vintage cca concours BMW daily. The BMW CCA embers agreed 100%. Why di that? ( I didn't drive the car while in college. I was a dorm student.)

Moreover..
I want something cheaper and more economical than the spectra5.
I also found myself modifying the spectra5. (lowered and rims.)
So there you have it..

Something cheaper, smaller, and more economical...
Enter the 2006 Rio5.

I'm hoping to trade my Spectra5 in as soon as I see any "rebate" what-so ever on the new rio5. I'm looking for the dealers to discount the car somewhat, because The 2006's have been sitting there for quite some time ...and they are not selling here in Northeastern PA.

SO wish me luck.

Hope the rebates are coming.
They already have 3.9 apr and $2000 rebate on the 2006 new design Optima
Why not any rebates on the Rio or Rio5???

That's certainly a nice Spectra5 you have, but changing Mobil1 at 3K intervals? That seems rather wasteful, since 6 to 10K between changes is standard procedure with synthetic oils, and no ill effects are noted. I can see changing dino oil every 3K (I do) but not a synthetic...

I've wondered about rebates etc. as well, they're going to need something now that the Honda Fit is now hitting the street in the same general price range, even though I do think the Rio5 has some things to recommend it over the Fit for some folk. I certainly prefer the Kia, mine's been good so far. In Madison they were selling 3-5 Rios a week for awhile, not sure if they're still doing it. In other parts of the world the Rio5 has been quite a hit. I bet they start some kind of rebate or incentive soon, though.

Interesting...

Yeah, I get that from everyone anymore...once I mention my 3k oil changes...
I guess I should let it go for about 5-6k miles anymore...as I am still stuck in the 80's.

I use non synthetic in my BMW's and change the oil every 3k or 3 months.
Castrol GTX with BMW oil filters..It's been my ritual since I got my licence in 1996.(I'm 25 yrs old btw)

I've been using mobil 1 in the kia because my dad uses it in his new m3.
Just the assumption that a newer technology car should use synthetic oil.

I'll be sure to change the oil every 5-6k now. My friends change their synthetic oil on their acura's and hondas every 6,7,8k miles...SO I should have got the hint then. I guess I'm just stubborn. Thanks for the input.

Ok back to the RIO5:
Yes I am fully aware that the Fit is headed to showrooms any miniute..and is expected to be a award winning sub-compact. Not only the Fit is coming ...The Yaris is already here. Truth is...the majority of americans will purchase the honda or toyota over the kia. (sad but most likely true)
Both these cars are going to cause quite a stir for KIA dealers.

Still I want the RIO5, I test drove one months back and really liked it.
In testing (Handling) the RIO5 out performed the 2006 base mitsu eclipse!
Not to mention..the car is not even aimed to compete against something like that. It's a econo car. Fun to drive and gets 38mpg highway. I want it for the smallness, economic savings, and the fun to drive factor..

They better start the rebates so I can buy one. I want to get rid of the spectra5 by September...because I'm moving to southern Florida for Grad School...and I would like to be driving a RIO5 there.
Big City..need a small car
(well smaller than a already small spectra5)

Since we are talking about car's.. I'd like to show fellow members my car collection...
Here's some pictures of my 80's rides & my 2005 KIA Spectra5 daily driver:

1988 325i
full restoration (9-03)

1988 M3
(full restoration with new S14 M engine 8-05)

2005 Kia Spectra5
(13k miles. The daily driver...but I want a RIO5!)

I do not intend to barrage this forum with some non-kia pics..but I thought I'd share my automotive enthusiast passion with you.

Hopefully within the upcoming months I can land a sweet deal on a RIO5
(Red Metallic, with full pwr pkg and ABS)
