At the risk of sounding sarcastic, the answer to your question is yes...... WAX!

I have been using Turtle Wax's "System 2001" on my vehicles for many years now, and my vehicles look good and clean up easily.

This is a great wax because it goes on easy (it's liquid), and it comes off easy... even if you leave it on overnight! It's some kind of synthetic-poly based product.

Clean your car up good... use some bug-and-tar remover for the black spots if need be, and then give that car a GOOD wax job!

You won't regret it.

Specraman is definitely right about waxing your car regularly. I am rather surprised that you didn't know all paint requires maintenance to keep it clean and shining. Kia's paint is not crap but it is applied thinner than some brands and is known to scratch easier so wash your car often but use non-cloth and brush automatic car washes if you don't hand wash yourself. Btw, my car is an '02 Optima and it looks new because I maintenance both the interior and exterior on a regular schedule. Bird and tree droppings are dealt with quickly so as not to stain.

The "black spots" you mention.... I wonder if they're the residue from the shipping covering that I see most KIAs wearing as they come off of the truck?

I was finding spots of that stuff popping up on my car for nearly a year as I'd wash it and dry it. As I said... a little bug and tar remover (or gas/lighter fluid IF you're #$%^& careful!) on a rag will get that kind of stuff off.

After you've got all of the crud off, then get that wax on 'er! :-)

Here's all you need to keep your Rio looking good:

P.S. The name of the wax I use has been changed to "FINISH" 2001.

Good luck!

I can vouch for that Finish 2001. I used it on an 89 Honda last year and it looked great! Had some left over and did my Metallic Green Kia with it and it looks great also.

I always had problems with my cars when you accidentally apply some wax on the black plastic trim. The wax stays there and it looks terrible.

In those case, you simply wipe off the wax from the black trim while it's still wet, and then follow up with a bit of (again) Bug-n-Tar remover on a small cloth to remove any excess in the grooves or grain of the plastic. Not a big deal... really.

Practice at waxing, and being careful around the trim solves most of the problem before it happens.
