I noticed there are some faint but annoying squeaking noises coming somewhere from under the dash panel area (the MP3 audio sample is attached). The squeak appears about a second almost each time after I release the gas pedal. The squeaking starts a few minutes after I start driving and mostly appears in the drive mode, when the engine is running and the car is moving. It is very difficult to locate the source. Of course, the radio must be turned off to hear that. Anybody experienced that?

Is it constant? Is it worse when you go over bumps/crevices in the road?

Since were both fron The Great White North, I think the cold weather might have a part in this...

I kind of have the same issue with my 2006 Rio EX MT. Mine does not happen as you described it; but releasing gas pedal tend to cause a car to shift weight putting stress on suspension...so I think it might be suspension related....just like mine.

Whenever the right-front wheel goes over bumps, it makes this squeaking noise from underneath passenger dash. It's especially noticeable in cold weather.
Recently, I also noticed that when making hard left turns, something goes "pop" at the same location. I've already had my right front strut replaced per dealer diagnostic, but this problem still persists.

I suspect that it may be either the rollbar connector, suspension bushing or tower mounts...I'm not a mechanic so these are my best guess-timates.

Does anyone know which part of the suspension would be prone to making noises in cold weather?

When my car goes over the bumps I periodically hear some kind of a crunchy noise coming from under the floor, which I think is caused by the tire against the road friction. But the gas pedal noise is different in pitch and location. It is faint, short and high pitched squeaky noise which quite noticeable when the music is off. It is correlated with the gas pedal release, but with this 1 second time lag, I would say it is more correlated with the tachometer reading decreasing. But again, with the engine off there is no noise whatsoever. I also tried to play with the gas pedal with the car moving downhill on neutral, no noise. I tried to lubricate the gas cable, no luck. I also wanted to lubricate the kick down automatic transmission cable, but could not find it. Does it exist in this car?

Just an update:

Did not touch the conduit, but lubricated the throttle cable wherever possible - all exposed parts of it on both ends. The noise has not gone completely, but seems to be a little quieter now.

The tape recorder was on the floor. You can hear that it tends to squeak when pushing and especially releasing the gas pedal, when I actually drive the car, but when I just play with the pedal on neutral or with the engine off, there is no noise whatsoever. The throttle cable, the pedal spring and bearings are lubricated. Any ideas?

That is brilliant... ..recording the noise. Anyway,. it sounds like when you release the pedal, almost like the engine tourqing back into position.

ie.when you press the pedal the enging turns somewhat on its mounts....when you release the pedal, the enging returns to its original position and this is where the sound is.

Almost like when you release, something in the engine compartment rubs up against the firewall.

Thats all I got unless you can add realtime video and take me for a ride.

canakia: thanks for the update. Do you know if there is any mechanical cable (like a speedometer/tachometer) running through the firewall inside to the ECU sensors, instrument panel, or something like that?

I believe the speedometer is driven by a speed sensor on the transmission and the tach is also electronically actuated by an electrical pulse. I dont think there is a mechanical speedo cable.

I have been corrected once today already so my confidence is a little low right now but I'm 90% sure.

Just a quick update: last week I took the car to the automatic car wash where they also jet clean the bottom of your car. This time I was driving very slowly through the fountain to allow more time for the water to work underneath. After that it became much quieter, although I don't believe this is a permanent solution.
