Howdy, I just got my 06 Rio5 a few days ago. The package is supposed to include "tinted windows". I can see no tint at all in the glass. A salesman told me that there is a gas in the glass that blocks UV, and that is what they mean by "Tinted Glass". He then pointed out the (E11) printed on each window, and said that that means its tinted.
Is this true?

In my area it is fairly inexpensive to have darker tint added to a car after you buy it from the dealer. Many dealers have relationships with accessory shops that also do tints and alarms. I paid $160 for a dark tint on my Optima. Keep in mind many states require the tint to be within a specific range and if not, the tint must be removed. Check with your DMV office before adding dark tints.

Well, here is the update on my "tinted Glass"
I called the Kia Question 800 number. They have no idea. I went to the dealership, and asked to speak with the service manager. I ended up talking with the service manager, and the sales manager, together. They said that they had never seen the "tinted glass" part of the window sticker before that day. After looking at a few Rio5s, they say that "tinted glass" refered to the tint strip at the top of the windshield, and that the other windows are not treated in any way...
Next day- I return because I find that my extended warranty deductable is marked as $100 instead of $0 as agreed apon. The finance guy is nice, and he fixes the warranty problem. I ask him about the window tint... He says that all of the windows are tinted. I told him what the others said, and he said that if it were only the windshield, it should say "tinted windshiled" not "Tinted glass". He could find no proof that my windows are tinted, but he refered me to www.NHTSA.dot.gov , for answers. He asked me to tell him whatever I find out, because he thinks that if they are not all tinted, than the "tinted glass" thing is a flat out lie. I found a contact on the NHTSA site, for glass regulations. I sent them an e-mail asking if they can help me find out what is going on here. I'll let you know what I find out...

I don't really think the stock KIA Rio has tinted windows, other than the small strip on the front windshield.

I'ved to do mine at another workshop, to darken a bit and improves heat rejection as it is very warm in Singapore all year round.

More than likely it is just a UV tint to stop the inside from fading.

Kia motors says that the all of the windows have only a very sight "Hue", and that there is NO U.V. protection. They say that the "Hue" is so light that there is not even a % measurment of blocked light. They told me this just 30 min. after the sales guy told me there is a 2% tint all the way around.
-After much hassle, they agreed to tint my windows tomorrow, as well as paint the inside of my rear hatch(see"Paint job") (No charge)
