I'm considering purchasing a 2006 Kia Rio and would like some feedback from owners. By the way, how often do you need to change the timing belt on a 06 Rio? Currently I own a 2000 Hyundai Accent where you are required to change the timing belt every 60,000 miles.

I gotta tell ya...I'm really glad I got mine. I test drove the Hyundai Accent, Chevy Aveo, Ford Focus, Scion xA and the Kia Rio. I didn't like the looks of the Accent...inside or out, the Aveo seemed like a tinny POS from the get-go, the Scion was ok, but felt a but underpowered and rode a bit rough, they ruined the interior of the Focus for the 2006 model year (it was Toyota Echo-like, and I hate that...)plus I couldn't find one that was "scaled-down" on the dealer lot...I couldn't see myself spending $1250-$1750 more for a Ford anyway. And then there was the Rio.

I'm 6'5", and the Rio, IMHO, had the best fit, looked better inside and out, than all the other cars I evaluated, and I was only looking for a basic-transportation-commuter car for my daily 40 mile round trip commute. It didn't look or drive like your typical econo-box either. The warranty and gas milage added to the plusses of this car. I looked into a few other things as well...replacement tires for the Rio were the least expensinve, the engine bay looked DIY friendly (i.e. belts, hoses, plugs, alternator, water pump, starter look more accessible than on most newer cars I see...I plan on running and keeping this car past the 10 years or 100k miles mark, I've driven beaters as my commuter car for 13 years and ran them to all to around 200k...so this was important to me as well) the dash was set up logically, and I was able to get the option of not having power windows and locks (IMHO, its more crap to break...it sucks ripping into door panels, drilling through rivets, and cutting up my paws to replace a power window motor) I got mine for $13,500 out the door. Overall...I'm happy with it...for now. I'll see what happens after 25k and 60k miles, and I'll see how "customer-friendly" the service department at my dealer is.

Hi
I just bought a Kia Rio 2006 EX full equipment,i will get the car on monday morning so after a couple of weeks i will post my review.
Just to let you know that for the price and warranty that Kia offers in my opinion you cant go wrong, sure the honda civic sedan is probably a better car as more power better road driving then the rio sedan but you are not buying a race car or a collecter item your buying a compact sedan and with the same equipment the civic cost about 5000$ more here in canada and on top of that the garantty doesnt match the Kia's. So i think you have to be stupid to waste 5000$ more for a compact.

Thank you all for your feedback. I am looking to buy a stripped down 06 Rio with only automatic transmission and AC. My 00 Accent has power everything but the power windows have broken 3 times. I'll go and look at a 06 Rio today. BTW, in the past, Kia made the Festiva and the Aspire for Ford, both cars are know for going over 100K, especially the Aspire.

There's a neighbor who has a Aspire with nearly 200k miles on it and it is running fine he says. Interior and exterior doesn't look bad for the wear and tear of being driven so many years. A couple years agao I saw a Festiva with 196k miles on it and needed minor work. Guy said he just got around to replacing the timing belt again. He swears by 3k oil and filter changes.

A friend of mine and his wife each drive a Rio5. They both really like them.

Man those folding flat down rear seats are pretty handy, does anyone else find this feature cool? In my case, I'd fold the seats down and just leave them both down.

They're handy but a little time consuming when you're trying to load stuff from homedepot in -20c weather
