Default Tire Size

The standard tire size is 205 60 16, does anyone think it would be possible to mount 225 60 16 on the car. My speedo is about 2 mph off and this would correct the problem.

Thanks,

The short answer is "it depends". In this case, the actual width of the tire at the point it meets the rim will be critical. It is difficult to say definitively yes or no as one manufacturer's tires will work, while another's may not.

I have tested my speeedo from 25 to 75 and it is 2mph fast (it probably varies some, but not enough to easily detect). I just ignore it and figure it gives a margin of error when I set my cruise to avoid smokey.

It wasn't so much as the speedo being off, but rather tires getting older and it seems that the 225 width is more common at the discount stores, and possibly better ride with a wider tire. I looked at the clearance between the tire and the strut and it is pretty close. Thanks for your input.
