Smile K&N air filter finally out

K&N finally has an air filter out for the 2006.5+ Optimas. Just thought I'd let everyone know that didn't.

Well that's good. It's a great product I'd recommend investing in one!

Ditto that. You can never lose anything from investing in a K&N filter.

i'd like to get one, but K&N only lists one for the 2.4l engine. does anyone know if that fits the 2.7l also?

The part number is 33-2934 for those that are interested. I will be getting one as soon as I can...

The 33-2934 is listed for the 4 cyl. Will it fit the 2.7 V6?

Mike

i don't think it will fit, but you can check by seeing if the part numbers from kia are the same. about 4 months ago i went to the K&N website and filled out a request form for them to manufacture an air filter for the 2007 optima 2.4L. then, a couple of weeks ago they sent me an email saying that they had made the air filter that i had requested. i suggest you 2.7L owners do the same thing, it only takes a few minutes to fill out the request form. just go to KnadN.com mike foist

Took your suggestion and filled out the request form for various filters for the 2.7L engine.

Got an email back the next day saying that there was an oil filter (HP-1008).

Still waiting to hear back on Air filter. Will let you know.

Hey, just saw this link where a bunch of air filters were tested head-to-head. He measured airflow (pressure diff. before and after filter) and filtration. Very interesting results.

Air Filtration Test

As far as air flow, the worst filter in this test only caused a total pressure drop of 0.07 psi. The K&N gauze filter did flow marginally better than stock and aftermarket paper filters, but filtration was worse.

So, is it really worth sacrificing filtration ability for a few hundredths of a psi in airflow?

Makes me wonder if the performance boost folks claim to notice after installing a K&N is more placebo than actual gain. I guess we need a dynamometer to find out.

Butt dynos really aren't that affective in proving something makes a few more horsepower and a real dyno won't either unless you put the new "X" device on right after doing a baseline dyno run. If you wait a day or two (or more) the air temperature, humidity, and or Barometric pressure will not be the same and those three can affect the dyno results even more. Personally I like dragstrip tests where you run the car 3 times down the track, then install what you want to test and run it 3 times more. Sound has a way of making you think a car is faster -- it sounds faster therefore it is....LoL!

Air intakes are more of a "personalizing" item to dress up your car and show it off. If you were to run identical cars, one with a K+N and one without, the difference might be 1 car length -- it's a difference -- but just for bragging rights...LoL.
