Default 'supervisor display' question

OK, I have a 2006.5 Optima with the 'trip computer'. This is nice because it has the outside temp, but I sure would like to have instantaneous mpg on there. I think some markets get this, but not the USA. Does anyone know where the display processing happens? My question is -- if you put in a UK or OZ module, would you get the functions for that market? Or is the calculating done in the engine ECU, so the display wouldn't be right if not matched to the ECU as originally.

I also own a 2006.5 Optima with the trip computer. The information it presents is a joke.
I purchased a Scanguage II and keep it connected all the time. It shows 4 items a once and they are user settable. It will read fault codes from the computer and allow you to reset them. Some of the display items are MPG, GPH, WATER TEMP, FUEL IN TANK, CURRENT MPG, YESTERDAYS MPG, VAC PRESSURE, AND MORE.
You can do a google search for Scanguage II and find it on the internet.

Hi -- The Scanguage II looks interesting as I was considering buying a 'code reader' tool anyway... but I would like to keep the instruments display of the factory guages - just have the MPG in there somehow. Where did you mount the Scanguage unit - is it visible but not 'in the way' of something?

I placed it in front of the instrument cluster. I put thin rubber mat under it to keep it from moving and have it just in front of the gas gauge. If anyone has an idea of a better place I am interested.
