Default Synthetic oil

I am thinking about swapping my 2006.5 Optima to synthetic mainly so I am not changing it every 6 weeks. How long could I go on synthetic and still stay in warranty, and what type of filter should I use. I will definitely use Castrol since I have had good luck with their dino oils.

With kia it makes no difference. They have a set service schedule per mileage etc. and that's that.

However, with Amsoil you'll get a warranty with extended oil changes. I've been doing this for almost 25 years with no issues and I use the Amsoil filter.

5W-20 XL would be a good selection for your car. AMSOIL - Extended Life 5W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil (XLM)

In the following thread I've laid out some info that might help you. At the very end I've also laid out some of the service intervals I do with my equipment and for many of my customers.

i run mobil 1 in min and have the dealer (me) change it (since I am a tech there...) every 15,000 miles. I use mobil 1 synthetic 15,000 mile formula... zero problems and runs like a champ, came out looking clean, since it only has 20,000 (thats when i changed it) miles on it and i changed it at 5,000 miles when I bought it. so I am waiting for 30,000 miles (i'll change it every 10,000 miles though.)

I use the 5-20W oil and a part number M1-108 Mobil1 Filter

Ok. So I changed the oil with synthetic. I used Castrol Syntec 5w30 and a Mobil 1 filter. So, my question is how long can I go until the next oil change. I am assuming that I can't go past 7500 due to warranty issues (I only have 23k on it so far). Also, since this is the first (I think since it was an Enterprise Rent a Car in it's former life) synthetic change, do I need to do it at 3k. Forgive me for all the questions, but this is my first foray into synthetics.

mobil 1 makes 0W-20 and 0W-30 now and they have the same temperature rating as 5W Mobil 1 oils. And of course they will give a little more power and fuel economy. They also meet KIA's warranty specs for engine oil. But don't use the 0W-40 because it does not meet the warranty specs. So, since i just saw this oil yesterday at wal mart for 21$ for the 5 quart jug i will be changing my oil in the next couple o' days.
