Default New (to me) 2006.5 Optima

I just got a 2006.5 Optima LX V6. I just got my wife an 06 Sorento last November. I had a couple of questions. The gas mileage seems all over the board. I got 28 mpg the first time I filled up, 22 mpg the second time, and it looks like about 24 mpg this time. The time I got 22, I was having a little fun with the autostick and such and I went home through the city instead of on the interstate. Is there really that much of a difference between city and highway? The Volvo 960 I traded in got 20 mpg regardless of which way I went home and that was with 245k on it. Needless to say I prefer the 28 to the 22. Also, is there any to make the doors lock when you put it into gear?

Thanks

Default Optima 2006.5

I have a 2006.5 with the 2.7l engine. My gas mileage is varies from 21 to 25mpg. The dealer can program the car so that the door locks when the car start moving. The car can be programed to lock at several different speeds.

Is the lock programming a do-it-yourself procedure or does the dealer have to do it.

I have a 04 2.4. My milage varies quite a bit too. I tracked it down to what gas station I used to "fill-up". I found that when I used the same station (actually use the same pump) my milage was consistent (varied "normally" with city/highway, aggressive/conservative).

The nozzles are set to shut off at a certain air back pressure to sense when the tank is "full" and starting to fill the fill tube. Apparently there is a good bit of variation in this setting. I think there may be an issue with the design as well...when I bought the car the deal made a point to caution me to not "top off" as it may overfill and ruin the emmissions canister.
