Default Put some Silverstars in the Optima

Well folks, I bit the bullet and bought one of the stupidly easy mods I could an I am so impressed, I bought some Sylvania 'Silverstar Ultra" headlight bulbs (It's an H7 bulb BTW for Lows, and H1 for Hi's) and some Silverstar Turn Signal bulbs (1157 Bulb, OEM says 2357 but 1157 is brighter) The headlights weren't hard to change but the TS bulb was a PITA!!! lol... Its like literally reaching under a Projector to reach the dang sockets. I am very impressed because I thought the Xenon's couldn't get any better, but the ultras give off a beautiful white blue icy color, and the SS turn bulbs make the entire interior of the TS socket look like Ice...

Sorry for my spiel but I just had to brag lol, also its nice for you who don;t like reading your owners manuals to figure out the bulb type.

Oh yeah, I also bought a shifter boot to put over the gated auto shifter but I need to find some time to put that one in...

So I spent $100 on all of it, but I am happier than a clam in the sand...

Next up? LED Tail light bulbs, oh yeah I also put LED's in the front sidemarkers lol... Those were free though...

Anyone know the easiest way to pull out the front floor courtesy lights, and the license tag lights?

Silverstar bulbs are shit... ask around... other people know it as well.

They may be brighter, but they last 1/10th as long as other bulbs.

Well glad to see you had good results. But not sure the turnsignals are as you say better due to the bulbs you wrongly put in. Versous the correct ones. Most likely it is just a optical illusion due to the Silverstar color change in light. As the Bulb design Tech Data will tend to disprove that if you had just put in the plain correct bulbs. Here is why.

1157 Wrong bulb you put in thou has the same base as the old one.

27watt/8watt
402lumins/38lumins light output at 12.8volts

2357 Correct one you took out and did not put back

28watt/8watt
503lumins/38lumins light output at 12.8volts

It isn't horrible luck... just google it. It has been proven that Silverstars suck (integrity-wise). They are a LOT brighter, but at a cost. Hope you're willing to spend Over 300 bucks a year on headlight bulbs!

But, if you can afford it, then Kudos! They are great when they work!

As for me, I have no such bad luck. As I put back what comes out unless there is a verifiable reason in the data and output watts to prove otherwise. As well as a solid history of few failures. Silverstar has not proven that to many. Nor do I put back a diffenrt bulb unless that too has a verifiable reason(you have none) thru data. And in doing so would up the light output for sure not jsut I think they are brighter as they look brighter. Something the bulb tech data will not and can not prove for you or anyone. A 1157 at 403 lumins is not as bright as a 2357 at 504 lumins. Pure and simple science. The new 2357 was designed form teh start to be lightly brighter and work with the lens and reflector designs to give much more light then the old 1157 did. They would be using the 1157, and never made the 2357 if not still today. Same thing with the 168 and 194 bulbs.

I've had silverstar turn sig bulbs(2357)for a year now and no problemo. The bulbs are rainbow colored when not on that also shows up on the reflector. I calls em as I sees em!

Like I said you guys. The bulbs work great. They are brighter. They just don't last as long.

You want proof? I can't really offer any. All I can say is ,"ask around". A lot of people have different experiences. I went through 3 sets of Silverstars. All 3 sets lasted only a few months. I literally went through 3 sets in a year. A LOT of people on this forum (and on streetkiaz.com) have had similar experiences.

So, like I said, if you can afford them then more power to ya'! They cost a lot, and they don't last long, but they do what they advertise. They are noticeably brighter... while they last.
