Increase Throttle Resistance?
My girlfriend just bought a 2007 Kia Optima 5spd with 1,800 miles, someone decided they wanted an automatic instead and traded it in, it seems with good reason.
Not only is the clutch in this thing incredibly grabby and unforgiving, but the throttle has such a light return spring that even I can barely feel it under my foot (I'm 6'1" and 135, so that's normally not an issue).
She has been killing it alot these first few days trying to get used to it, and I have killed it a couple times as well. After driving it to a hospital 45 miles away for a family emergency this weekend, I physically could not find a comfortable position to drive the thing no matter what I tried (no cruise control).
Since I've been told it's not possible at this point to add cruise control, and even if it were possible, the next best thing in my opinion would be to put a heavier return spring on the throttle pedal. I haven't had a chance to take a close look at it yet as it's been raining alot, but has anyone else done this?
My daily driver is a '98 firebird with a manual, I've driven everything from big block corvettes to crx's, and this is the touchiest car I've been in. I'm hoping a stiffer pedal will help her to modulate the throttle better without killing it or flooring it.
Thanks.
