Default Amsoil/Mobil 1 etc

Have been 20 + year user of Amsoil in many vehicles with nothing but good results and many trouble free miles. Looking to do the same with my new 2.4L using either Amsoil XLM 5W-20, which is 7.5K OCI oil or Mobli 1 5W-20.

Will probably go with the Amsoil or Mobil 1 filter too.

Has anyone out there used any synthetics in the newer Kias and how have the results been to date?

Have also considered going to the extended "15K" oils but will likely hold off for a year or so before going that route.

Personally I've only used Mobil 1 SuperSynth in all of my cars. I have an 2004 Optima LX with almost 55K Miles and I've been using Mobil 1 5W-30 since I bought it used with 29K Miles. I've had NO problems with Mobil 1. But am wondering about Amsoil really performing better than even Mobil 1 SuperSynth....

Went thru the initial first service with the dealer, which I'll not be going back to for anything other than warranty work as the service manager is a first class uneducated boob.

Since I bought this car partially out of curiosity I'm not going to use my normal synthetics. Made the swing into Pennzoil Platnium 5W-20 at 5k Miles.

Using an OEM filter more for warranty purposes even though I know the Amsoil filter is by far superior. This I might change should I decide to keep the car for more than another year or so.

FYI * When switching over to synthetics it's best to not expect any extended service due to the residue mix left behind from the dino oil. Will be running UOAs every 2.5K miles with expectations to run this OC to 7K miles or so.

Also ran UOAs on the last 2 oil dumps for a comparison.

Since the majority of the miles will likely be highway, 7K miles on a group 3 synthetic for it's first run should be a cakewalk with this car but will let the UOAs tell the whole story.

So far the car has performed near to expectations. It's too bad Kia management doesn't know when to keep their foot out of their mouth.

The grand experiment continues.

Forgot to mention when the first oil filter was changed I slapped a filter magnet on.

FilterMAG Oil Filter Magnet

When I made the switch to synthetic I kept the filter in a bag until I had some time to cut it open. Having opened several filters over the years initial inspection showed this filter to not be anything of greater significance than most high quality aftermarket filters.

However, the filter mag did it's job as small particles, that when removed, stuck to another magnet were found on the outer wall of the filter.

Just did the first UOA on the synthetic swap @ 3K miles on the 5W-20 PP or 8K miles overall and all results were within acceptable parameters.

FWIW

I'm switiching over to Amsoil's latest 0W-20 in most of my newer vehicles.

This "ASM" formula, which BTW is a heavy 20 Wt. is an extended OC formula rated for 12-15K, annual OCIs in severe service.
