That's great about your mpg on your new Optima with the 2.4L engine. Please let me know how you like the engine and transmission in this new model when you have a chance. I have driven the V6 version the most on a company car and love it but everyone seems hooked with the great performance and economy of the 2.4L. My older Optima still gives me 27 mpg regularly and that is with the earlier 2.7L V6 version of the one in the new model. Enjoy your wonderful car!
I'd have more to offer but the wife took it away from me. Guess that says a lot for any ladies out there that aren't into hot rodding as my wife is pretty easy on the throttle in most cases but will run the speed limits.
Overall to date I'm rather impressed for the overall cost & with the function of the car. While a bit more power would be nice on occassion, for the most part it's not an issue.
The trany setup is OK. I do like the ease of downshifting as I'm one to "save" the brakes.
Really curious to see how it acts once 10K or so roll around. Having been a mechanic for 30 years along with a tendancy to overmaintain, it should show what it can really do by then with a light to moderate foot in the mileage department.
Thanks for the added information cmhj2000! Much appreciated. My mpg average on the 02 V6 went up several miles once I pass the 10k mark and would expect the same with your car. Your new Optima will love having someone to "overmaintain" it!! Keep us posted on things please.
People seem very happy with the new 2.4L engine overall and are buying them 3 to 1 over the V6. Btw, sometime next spring we are expecting the 2007 Optima will have the 3.3L V6 option in some markets as well as the 2.7L.

Whoa whoa whoa.. did I just read this correctly? Where did you get this information? Cuz if that's true.. then it's SOO ON.. I'm trading in to get an 07 with the 3.3L V6
I am speaking of the U.S./Canadian markets only here. It has been in discussion from the start with the new redesigned Optima to have a larger engine than the 2.7L and discussion has been on a 3.3L. Like anything else there has to be a market for it and as you probably know the updated 2.4L engine is the current push by Kia. There has to be a preceived market for the 3.3L just as there is for the Sonata larger V6. The Sonata and Optima do NOT share the same platform for the newest two models but do most of the drive train as you know. You will see more and more separation of the two brands as two independent design teams work on each brand. It had to come down to this or each brand would continue to feed off many of the same would be customers. That hampers growth and justification for spending money in Korea HQ.
Demands in other markets are at times different than in the U.S./Canadian markets and of course this can all change as supply catches up with customer demand in various markets. Most agree the 2.7L is not competitive enough with the likes of Toyota, Honda and Nissan newer and larger V6s.

Yeah, I get what your saying, funny thing is, we get the 3.3 sonata here? but not the magentis... :/
In Australia, we dont have things like focus groups that manufacturers dote on. We dont have a boyant New car market, ( your talking about under 1,000,000 new units spread across every manufacturer)
The simple fact is, with only 20 million as our population, and only a market share of around the 2.2% mark, then its only a drop in the ocean. Also geographically we are up shite creek without a paddle in a barbed wire canoe.
We are very much at the mercy of the Manufacturer, and what 'they' think will sell in our market.

Yes sir.. you are correct.. I'm not sure how large the V6 is with Toyota.. but Honda is 3.0L SOHC and Nissan is the same 3.5L DOHC found in the Maxima.
