Grinding Noise Depressing clutch

Hi All, I have a UK Kia Rio 2011 1.2 and when I depress the clutch and accelerate i hear a whining noise for approx 2 seconds. When changing gears while moving i do not hear this noise.

I am sure I had this noise a few years ago but only when reversing but recently I hear it every time the car is cold and I put the car into gear and pull away.

I think that when the car is warm and had a good run I no longer hear the noise. ( if i stop and start again)

It is pretty noisy and comes from the engine compartment. The car has 43000 miles on the clock. Otherwise the car runs fine, biting point has not changed to my knowledge.

Would anyone know if this is just issues with Kia Rio clutches or anyone had this issue and know what the cause is prior going to kia so that I have the correct information? Ie - the car is still in warranty but i'm not expecting a clutch repair to be covered so maybe it is something else.

Many Thanks

Turns out this is a "Thrust Release bearing" that Kia dealership say "We *think* it is under warranty, but we need to charge you £300 to take your gearbox out just in case it is not a warranty repair. If it is a warranty repair we will cover all costs"

Nearly a year later, same noise...if it goes it goes - new car i would imagine.

Use another brand of release bearing. Also mine have this noise and my car now is 12 years old. My mechanic advised me to buy luk, when I will have to buy the new clutch (and it does not miss much!).. For him is the best brand for clutch and related. Absolutely avoids Valeo like the plague!
