Thumbs down Rio cracked window weather stripping

I bought a 2008 Rio SX with 65,000 miles on it. After getting the car home I noticed that the weather stripping around all the windows was severly cracked. Kia will only warranty the windows up to 60,000 miles. I did read that there is a TSB ( technical service bulletin) on the weather stripping. I assume that this is a wide spread problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Also does anyone know if the stripping is hard to replace, can it be done at home?

My Lady just bought a 2010 Rio5 with only 2300 miles on it and I noticed that weather stripping problem on one of the rear windows too........I was going to ask the dealer since she still has 3 years on the warranty.......

I called the dealer about my problem and since I was not the original owner they would not replace it. The car I bought had 65k and that is 5k over the bumper to bumper warranty. Basically Kia was no help.

I did not get a notice that you had posted back to this thread, so just now see that you have. Thanks for that info. I will be seeing my Dealer within the next few days and will let you know what they tell me.

Regards

Just got back from the Dealer.......the Service manager looked at the window (both sides of the Driver side rear door window has the weather stripping peeling off)..... and the flaking plating on the drivers door handle and said both items were covered under warranty and he will order parts and call us when they come in.

Will keep you informed,
Chuck, CABGx3

Chuck, do you have any Idea how much the repair would cost if yours wasn't under warranty?

Hi All.....

We just got back from the Kia Dealer and they fixed the window weather stripping under warranty....no charge.

Here is what they wrote on the Repair Order:

CS: Customer Stated D/Side Rear Outer Window seal on both sides of glass is loose SOP is in.
Work performed by John Doe (nnn)
Installed 83531 1G200 :Run-RR Dr Window Gla verified D/Side rear outer window seal on both sides of glass loose. Due to deformed Run Channel. Replaced L/rear window Run channel.

Don't know what it would have cost if it had not been under warranty but you could call your local Dealer and ask what it would cost to do that replacement. It only took about a half hour to do the actual work.

Our vehicle is a 2010 Kia Rio5 with 2400 miles on it. They told us when we bought it last month that we still have 3 more years on the Warranty.

Hope this helps,
Chuck, CABGx3

P.S. They didn't replace the door handle that was bad because the wrong part came in.....they re-ordered and we have to go back again for that, but it's under warranty too.
