Question 2007 Kia Rio Base Tire Size

I'm looking to change out the rims on my 2007 Rio Base because I've had it with the stock wheels. I currently have 14" tires fitted on the car, and was wondering what the maximum tire diameter is which can be used on this model?

Your base should have 175/70/14s. 185/65/14 can also be used instead. If you jump to 15s, then the stock size was 195/55/15. I have also seen people run 195/60/15s without problems, and they were cheaper with many more tire options than the 55 tires. The plus size for 16s would be 205/45/16s.

Would using 15" or 16" tires affect the speedometer and odometer readings?

As long as the diameter of the tires is the same as the original, it will not affect the speedo. The only exception is the 195/60/15, which is slightly taller, but speedo difference will be very small, maybe 2mph.

do you think this would improve highway mpg? the gears on the rio5 are rather short...

But for larger diameter rims I would need larger diameter tires, correct? (16" rims = 16" tires)

wider tyres (the wider the track) affect consumption in a bad way. Actually, when you look at the physics of it all, the stock 14" tyres are the best. Lowest consumption. (ever wondered by bicyclist have very thin tyres)

Wider tyres only look better and, perhaps, give you some better grip in ceratain situations. They are more expensive, rims are more expensive and you get lower mpg.

Tire size calculator

If this is a 5 sp I feel your pain. Next to rust this is the next reason I gave up on my 2002.
3200 RPMs at 65 MPH is just too fast for me.
I test drove a 2010 and the RPMs are the same as my 2002

Don't forget the larger the tire the more one $$$ for it in general.

Good luck
