Cabin Air Filter

Does anyone know if the new (2008) Rio's have a cabin air filter?

Did you get a owners manual with your new car? Try google, Rock Auto sells them for around $15.

it does, its under the glovebox and behind it sorta. Thats all i can say. Not sure how to change it or what kind or anything like that, but all cars have one.

That's not quite true, not all cars do have them but in this case the rio does. As an example 04 Sedona had the slot and cover but the dash support was in the way so no filter. I've changed mine a time or too. I need to change it again as a matter of fact, I have 1 in the garage. The portion you change is just the filter media the plastic frame is re-used. It's pretty easy if you know how.

KIA didn't put them in Rio's till 2006 model year.

In fact most cars (older ones) did not come with cabin air filters. Most GM cars still do not come with a cabin air filter, along with most trucks. But to change the one on the Rio, I believe you have 2 screws (one on each side ) that you have to take out. After taking out the screws the entire glove box should drop down and behind it should be the cabin filter that just slides out.

No screws you could do it all with your fingers, a flat tip could be handy though.

I had a 2nd thought about the question. I know the owners manual says change every 10k miles. 10k miles is roughly once a year for most, I drive 25k miles a year. So rather then change it 5 times already I inspected it at 10-15k miles and change it yearly with roughly 25k miles. At 10k miles it wasn't even slightly dirty but thats only 5 months for me.

I can snap a pic or 3 this weekend when I change mine but I have no time to load and crop them. If anyone wants to do it and post them just shot me a pm with your email address and I will snap 3 pics, thats about all it will take.

On the owners manual it states *if equipped.
I didnt know if I was equipped or not.

It's equipped so yes you have one. Wait for the weekend and I can possibly find time to send someone the pics. I buy mine from a kia dealer online (link is on my pc at work) roughly the same price as rock auto or advance would be. At the time they where only available from the dealer, local wanted $35 a piece instead I paid 15 I think.

I did check my parts shipment from last year and I do have a new one in the box ready to install and just for $hits and giggles I popped the glove box out to refresh my memory. Whole job is about 2 minutes maybe.

I also have to change the blower motor in the house this weekend if I get the motor and mount kit in time. So time is not something I tend to have allot of.
