a/c kicks on in defrost or floor/defrost setting on my 2009 Rio5

Here's the kicker; a member on here had posted the code involving pushing the recycle button 5 times to shut off the a/c.
Does not work in my '09; even tho the actual a/c button is in the off position the pump will still run in the defrost settings and the led on the a/c button still lights up in the off position. I do understand that it does help in clearing off a frosted or iced up windshield but i want to have 100% control of it. This should not function unless you turn on the a/c button yourself.
This car has an excellent heating system and will cook you so i want to have it shut off in the winter to avoid any wear and tear on a very expensive pump.
Is there another code for this or does the mentioned code only work on the 1st gen of rios? If there's no code or anyone else finding this issue annoying i can always just unplug the a/c pump and plug it back in for the warmer weather. Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Two things.
1 - A/C will not kick in below +2C outside. Hence, on winter you do not need to worry.
2 - in order for this procedure to work, selector must be in windshield mode only. Then, within seconds (if I recall) you push the recirculate button times. That should cause the button to flash a few times. From now on you can manually turn on or off A/C. However, in some models changing the selector from legs to windshield will cause the A/C to kick in automatically and you must deactivate it manually again.
System overall is same in the whole family, but there are small differences.

It worked in Rondo, and two Elantras - 2004 and 2009.

One more thing.
Disconnecting the battery will reset the logic system to default.
