Default 2006 Rio Cranks but wont start

I have a 2006 Rio LX with around 127,XXX on it. I have a problem with it starting, stalling, dying, etc. It recently died while driving. While I was driving and it gave a lurch. I looked at the dash and the CEL wasn't on, but my RPM gauge was at 0. No RPM being read at all. I gave it a little gas and the RPM gauge shot all the way up and then the car shut down completely. I pulled it to the side of the freeway and tired to start it again but all it would do is crank. It had been throwing a CKP code for a while. I replaced the CKP with a Kia/Hyundai OEM sensor. It started like normal. A few days later, it began cranking hard again and would usually take 2-3 tries to start. Now it wont start period. I am so tired of fixing this massive Korean POS (almost $3000 in repairs in the last 12 months). Anyone have any ideas what might be the issue? Thanks in advance!

One suggestion....Don't come to a forum where the posters like their KIAs and attack the brand in your second post...That WON'T bring a lot of helpful answers...
I/We understand your frustration but we don't know the history behind your claims...
These KIAs can reach 300k miles if properly maintained...

The first thing I saw when opening your post is the 127k miles... The timing belt should have been replace for the second time at 120k miles...Was it? If it hasn't been touched since new I'd almost bet on it being broken and major engine damage..The engine still can turn over if the broken parts went through the top of the pistons...

Check the timing marks on the crank and cam pulleys..If they still match then we can go on to other possible problems..

Have you replaced the spark plugs? They also should be on the second set ...If worn out hard starting will be the result....

Check the plug in connectors on the ignition coils. The older RIOs had connectors made of a plastic that dried out, cracked, and then would provide poor electrical connections to the primary of the coils...

A compression test on all four cylinders will give a good idea of what the insides of the engine look like..No or low compression means troubles...

You WILL find a lot of GOOD GUY RIO owners here that will go out of their way to help you "if" you "don't bit the hand that feeds you"..

Good luck
Dave

BTW...
A full engine for a 2006~2011 Rio with low mileage is really cheap if you know where to look...Here is one with 60k (low mileage for these engines) for $350 on ebay...
06 11 Rio 1 6L Engine Motor Assembly 60K Miles LKQ | eBay
If you need one...check car-part.com for one close by...

It sounds like you timing belt snapped or teeth are missing on the belt. I know this is an older post but it will help someone. Make sure to change the belt at the suggested intervals.
