Default Changing Tire Sizes

I'm considering purchasing a set of General Grabber UHP tires for my 2007 Sporty 2.7l. The stock tires, as we all know, are 235/60R16, but the closest I can get with the UHPs is 235/70R16. I've run a conversion calculator and discovered that the UHPs would be 1.9 inches taller than the stock tires, and I know that changing tire size will affect performance as well as louse up ABS sensors and ESP as well as the speedo accuracy.

Has anyone else moved up in tire size on their Kia? If so, how much bigger did you go, and what changes did you have to make to compensate. Is 1.9 inches going to be that much of a difference? It sure doesn't seem like much change. The stock tires pull 744.15 revs per mile, whereas the UHPs would have 696.59 revs per mile.

The 3 tire sizes that the Sportage came with:

235/55/17
215/65/16
235/60/16

I wouldn't go more than 1" taller on the tire without taking measurements. I expect them to rub especially on turns. You'll probably need spring spacers or a mild lift kit to fit those tires that are 2" taller.

Besides the stock sizes, other sizes to consider:
215/70/16
225/65/16

Pick a different tire.

My sportage came with 205/65/16. Its the lx 4cyl. I went up to 225/60/16 with no issues. The 205's just looked odd on the sportage.

225/60/16 is smaller than what was stock and smaller than what the thread starter already has. The speedometer, which is optimistic, will be even MORE optimistic with that size.

I know that I want a little taller too and listed what I will be trying once my tires wear down.

Check your doorjam sticker or owners manual. 205 width isn't an OE size in my 2008 owners manual page 8-4.

So, after a full nights sleep and a pot of coffee, I double-checked the General Tire website and discovered they DO make the Grabber UHP in the 235/60R16 size. So it's all good, I can stick with the stock size and still get the tires I want.
Thanks for your posts though, I appreciate it.

I'm almost positive it had 205s on it but I will double check, I have the tires in my garage. They were the tires that were on it when I bought it with 3 miles on it, so they were from the factory. I do know the speedo is not off due to speed trailers that show your speed on them around town. They throw these up around here to show your speed. They are all over vermont in summer months.

And Ill double check the size I went up to. Ill post it up later.
