Default Water in Fuel Filter Light

I have a 2007 Sportage XS 2.0 diesel.

Over the last few months the warning light for water in the fuel filter has started coming on. Normally it stays on for about half a minute when starting, sometimes not at all. Occaisionally it comes on when driving along and this is sometimes accompanied with a slight loss of power.

The Kia dealer has emptied the filter (free of charge) but this hasn't made any difference. Any ideas or is this normal?

It's not normal. Was there any water in the fuel when the dealer emptied the filter?

He said that he couldn't tell whether there was any water in there as 'it all came out together'. I thought that if I took the car in and had the fuel filter replaced then this might stop it and ensure that any water in there would be removed at the same time?

Hi,

Your dealer should have noticed if there was any water in the diesel as the diesel will float on the water,if there was any in there & it was collected in a glass jar.
possible the sensor in the filter is faulty or the connecter to the sensor,i should make sure all is well there first.

Cheers.
