My 2009 Sportage
Engine surges on cold starup for 15 to 25 seconds
After that it runs perfect, does anyone know of the fix or had the same problem ?
Thanks, JAY
I tried the carb cleaner,it did not work.
Maybe I'll give it another try. I sure think my Sportage is a great driver,I have had dozens of cars over the years and still enjoy driving my 2009 Kia. I keep it in mint cond.with a lot of chrome items etc. added to jazz up the looks.
I also have a 2013 Ford Escape with a 1.6 turbo, but for long trips I find the Sportage more comfortable overall.
I will be changing company soon and losing my company Ford Fusion, and was looking at a 2013 - 2015 used Ford Escape (the new shape).[/QUOTE]
If you send me your e mail address I can send you pics.
of my 2013 Escape to see just what I have done to it.
Won't post them on this site. May do that with my Kia pcs.soon.....
Hi, I believe i have the same problem on my 2009 Sportage LX as well. I have the same engine as yours and that problem only happened twice this winter to me because it hasn't been that cold in Seattle at all (yes, it's been 50-60F degrees since January, it's hard to believe since the rest of the US was covered in snow and we got nothing this winter).
My engine surged for about 5-10 seconds after start up. It was near freezing temperature in the morning/night, and after that it went back to normal.
I have recorded a video and showed to my service advisor at this Kia dealership, but they couldn't confirm what caused it because there's no way to test it out with this super early spring weather since January in Seattle...
All they know is there's no error code in the computer and they don't want to disassemble the car to check since everything seem fine at the moment.
My powertrain warranty still has 4 years to go, so hopefully I'll find out the cause by the end of this year.
