My kia sportage(2006)2.0 diesel has a problem with the heating system.about 5 minutes after startup hot air comes out of top and bottom vents, temp set to approx 20 deg.after about 20 minutes the air in top vents starts to cool and I have to turn temp control up,it has to be turned up to nearly 30deg eventually to keep top vents warm.air from bottom vents is always warm.
Took car to kia dealer but mechanic had no idea what was wrong .I changed both cabin filters behind glove box which were black, but this made no difference.

Trying to think logically about problem but without diagnostics have drawn a blank

check this

quote from user manual

Regardless of the temperature setting,
when using automatic operation,
the air conditioning system will
automatically turn on to decrease the
humidity inside the vehicle, even if
the temperature is set to warm.

this means that even if the system is set on heating it can blow cold air...

....just an ideea...

diesel - so Europe or AUS.

Check if you have enough coolant. Stupid but common.
Then - when you loose heat. Stop, shut down engine. With the key in ignition - when you move the heat selector - can you hear the deflector to move? Try same on cold.
Does it change temp at all?

I guess you do NOT have overheating problems, nor have you wide open/faulty thermostat. It is also possible that thermostat opens too early and rapidly (spring is too weak) what results in engine temperature drop...

So, look for more details and get back here.

Thanks for that quote.
Contacted Kia direct, they said this was a feature of climate control, that is once cabin reaches set temp then fan will blow cool air to maintain temp. Sounds fair enough but when cabin cools down hot air should be blown through vents to bring temp back up.After car heated up and vents were blowing cold air I drove for 3 miles with windows down car was freezing inside still cool air in face level vents,
