Changed ATF, only 1 qt came out...

Hey gang!
(2006 Sportage, 6-cyl, 4WD)
I 'changed' my ATF this morning but only a quart drained out even after sitting 15 minutes. The engine was warm. I'm puzzled.
I was debating doing a flush, I have the front bumper cover removed to install LEDs in it and saw the aux trans cooler in front of the condenser so wondered if I could flush with the ports on it instead of the ones in the engine compartment. I've read/heard of folks doing it with either supply or return and I thought return would be better so the coolers would flush out too. I'm pretty sure the return is the hose on the drivers side of the cooler.

I forgot to add that I replaced the drain plug and quart of fluid then started the truck and ran it through all the gears. Then I shut down and removed the plug to drain again but only a few drops came out!
The dipstick read fine, in fact 3/8" higher than the hot mark.

Hi Cobra, it's at 151k, ~60k (miles) on after a rebuild of the tranny.
I have not done a fluid change myself but had one done at 60k and one at 92k (refilled after rebuild).
Rebuild @ 92k after it lost reverse then 1st some time later.
They put a stronger wave spring in for more positive shifting, still not sure that was legit but ???

Looks like your trans was overfilled? Did the drain plug you pulled have a magnet on the inside of the plug? I would pull the plug again to make sure there is nothing clogging the hole, stopping the ATF form coming out.

The hole was/is wide open.
I just don't get how I could drain a quart, pour in a quart, but still have an empty pan. And a overfill reading on the dipstick.
I ran it again for 15-20 seconds, shifted all gears, still a dry pan :(
Is it normal to only get 1 quart out during a change? I think the oil change place ripped me off pretty good if this is normal.

I ended up getting in touch with my 22-year-old mechanic friend and she nailed it in less than 5 seconds. She asked "What else is under there that would take just a quart?"...
Transfer case! I was a bit suspicious that the fluid looked so clean when I drained it. That explained it.
I haven't touched an AT since 1994 and it was a 2WD :D
Thanks for the assist!

I know it! Quite embarrassing but I hope it can help some other hapless fool having a similar 'off-day' situation.
KF information has helped me so much that I haven't needed to post a question since I registered because the search engine here rocks and the questions have already been answered.
I need to dig through my repair and electronic mod pictures and either make some threads or add them to the appropriate existing threads to help others.
