that's most of the price is the timing belt because it takes most of the time of the entire 60K service. if you know how to wrench on a vehcile you could do the whole 60k service yourself and save a ton but if you don't know what you're doing...take it to a shop.
Glad I have the local mech. I go to. I stay away from the dealer except for special parts I can't get from the Zone or Advance. Also local dealer is a rip off even on oil filters $8.00 each. I go to Ft. Wayne VA Hospital and stop in their dealer and get the same part for $4.75. Plus they're more professional and make you feel like a wanted customer.

i spend $10 on my oil filter so $8 is nothing especially since the oem filter is designed for your vehicles specs. most people don't know that if an aftermarket oil filter causes damage to your engine in some way, that damage is not covered under warranty. it pays to use oem parts especially if your car is under warranty. as for my cars, the warranty's were gone a long time ago so i use what i want. i'm my car's warranty. lol i doubt mobil1 is gonna make a crappy filter especially since i run synthetic oil with a synthetic filter.
What I use is either OEM which is what I get at the KIA dealer in Ft. Wayne or Mobile 1 which is available at the Zone or Advance. I wait for sales and have never spent $10 for Mobile 1 filters.
my 2001 sephia has the original timing belt and water pump in it. why would you want to replace them early? (im getting my timing belt done real soon !!!) i have 140,000 miles on it. also has the original clutch !!!!

It's worthwhile replacing such service parts when due as specified by the manufacturer to avoid breakdowns and consequential damage - the odd person exceeding the recommended service intervals and getting lucky would not influence my decision to stick with the OEM service schedule.
