Default Door Handle Broken - How to fix?

OK, the other day I pulled up on my exterior driver's side door handle and "snap", the handle went limp. The interior door handle still works, so I'm guessing there is some plastic clip inside the door panel that connects the exterior door handle to the mechanism.

Anyone have a how-to on this?

I've noticed a couple of door panel removal threads; sounds like the window crank is an obsticle. How about a drawing so I can track down a part number?

UPDATE: Got the door panel off no problem (used the old school rag trick on the window crack clip). The exterior door handle is held in place with 2 10mm nuts and plastic clips that fasten to the connecting rod of the mechanism.

I only needed the handle (part you lift up), but it's only sold as an entire unit -Handle ASSY Outside (Part # OK2A1 59410); LH for Driver's side. MSRP is $42. I checked eBay and got excited to find black door handles (my Kia is black), but they were all for the Right side or back doors (must be a common problem and the driver's door is used the most). Off to call the dealer... if anyone has a good source for cheap parts, let me know.

The handle acts like a lever to pull up on the connecting rod, but the handle broke in two places inside. The levers and hinges are all plastic inside.

the only way i've been able to get a door open when both handles aren't working is to get those strips of metal (not sure what the name of them is) that locksmiths or tow truck drivers use to get doors unlocked and try to play around with the latch inside the door. there are rods that go to the door lock cylinder on the outside of the door, the door handles, and the lock button. there's really no other way to get the door panel off unless you destroy the door panel to get to the latch. it takes patience but it can be done without destroying anything.

trex try a wrecker and see if they have one. And as far as getting the panel off, i have removed the seat before so that i could mess around and get the panel off without destroying the panel. Another thing to try is put the window down and you might be able to see with a flashlight down the inside of the door to see whats broken. I bet you will need a door latch. Kias have this stupid little spring that breaks in the door latch assembly and it wont work at all if it is broken. Good luck.
