Anyone know of petrol tank problems. Got 2ltr 2009 Carens which we leave on a downward slope. Its not even on empty and it wont start. Called RAC and he said it was fuel starved but when put on level surface it had petrol in.
Happened again today. OK petrol was between 1/3 and empty. But why should i have to watch it so closly. Kia have said keep a 1/3 in. Anyone else with the same problem.

What sort of slope (ie how steep?)? - have you tried parking'upwards'? The fuel has to draw from somewhere low down in the tank so if the slope is steep enough and the tank is mainly full of air that's all it has to suck on. What does between a 1/3 and empty mean?

It depends a lot on how accurate your fuel gauge is but how low was the fuel level when it refused to pick up? The fuel pickup in most cars is usually positioned to pick up fuel until the tank is virtually empty but a steep slope might cause the fuel to run foward away from the pickup. But it is never a good idea to run a tank that low anyway because all of the dirt etc in the tank will find its way onto the filter. I'm sure a few fellow owners will be able to tell you of their experiences. In the mean time it would be a good idea not to run the tank too low.
