Aftermarket Radio

The Stock radio that came with the car was very basic, so it was upgraded with one aftermarket radio ordered from chine, from my Friends of infidiny

It Works pretty well and is compatible with the steering Wheel and the a/c computer. Also Works with the panel in the instrument panel showing the info of the radio station. I think that this radio is the most compatible seen today with the sorento 2016.

Looks like Sirius not included

Congrats on the new Sorento. It's looks are very striking especially over the outgoing model. You've made some nice finishing touches.

I find it really odd that Kia haven't made better design options for the lacklustre radio/HU. We are in 2015 and it looks like it came out of a car from the 90'.

definitely a very nice upgrade. the only issue with this Chinese radios is the sound quality. considering the cost (300+) you get way better sound quality with a JVC, Kenwood or Pioneer HU with a very similar price range. Definitely not all the options of an android HU but at the end it all depends on personal needs and preferences.

with this HU you save on steering wheel interface (around $50) and dash kit (around $40)

If it sounds like the oem, I'm happy. Was it an easy 1:1 installation? Did you to strip many cables and install new connectors? Just thinking that having backup camera, steering wheel control, ac control and gps antenna...it should be quite a challenge.

It was 1:1 installation, very quick and no mess. You dont have to change or install any new connector, only the backup camera because the car doesnt came with one. You dont have to strip any cable.
The installation would take 15 minutes or less, not counting the backup camera installation.

I should preface this comment by saying I haven't had a chance to really troubleshoot anything yet, so here's my results after just plugging it in as-is out of the box:

  • Bluetooth works fine on two phones (LG G4 and Galaxy S7), but not one other (Nexus 6P). I tend to think this is the phone's fault though as I've found multiple reports of the Nexus 6P having bluetooth issues connecting to car head units
  • As far as the backup camera goes, I have not yet got it working. I purchased the aftermarket camera that goes with this head unit that should work fine, but I don't want to run wiring to the back so I'm hoping to get the OEM camera working. I just haven't had the time to try it.
  • The voice command button on the steering wheel doesn't work. I'm not sure if it's supposed to. I haven't looked into that either.
  • The OEM aux and usb ports underneath the head unit don't work. From my understanding from this thread, if I were replacing a UVO unit then it would be plug and play for the usb, but since my previous is a non-UVO unit, it doesn't plug in out of the box.

Everything else works great.

Hope that helps. Again, I'm not as mechanically or electrically inclined as probably most on this forum, but maybe that's a good perspective to have since i can tell you what works out of the box without any extra knowledge needed.

Help with back-up camera

I just got a 2016 Sorento and I have added a new Alpine ilx-107 to it. Everything has gone fairly smoothly the head unit is working, I've got the steering wheel controls up and running but I can't seem to get the back-up camera to work.

My Sorento is the LX without Nav and the stock stereo doesn't have the usb port on the back but I do have USB/AUX in the center console.

I have the axxess voltage regulator and I've got a male RCA plug pinned out but I'm not sure where the pins go. Has anyone figure this out yet? I assume the smaller harness plug is where all the camera wires are but I can't find a guide for the pins like the CANBUS has. Any ideas?

I'd post images but I'm apparently not allowed.

I've looked at that link a ton and my harness isn't the same at all. I've got an extra connector that just does video. It's on the right side of the dash photo attached let's call it connector C. There is reverse signal there and it looks like video ground/signal and camera power/ground. I've got the reverse signal wire from the head unit hooked up to the reverse signal on the harness connector C as well as the blue white wire on the Metra AX-Cam6V step down. I have the blue/red wire from the AX-Cam6v hooked to the red wire on connector C the black wire on the AX-Cam6v hooked to the black wire on connector C as well as the yellow wire and the yellow/black wire on the RCA cable connected to the yellow and yellow/black wires on connector C. See attached diagram to make it more clear. What have I hooked up wrong?

When I put it in reverse the head unit switches to camera mode but I get no video.
