Default Kia Remote Start

Just curious on this and hopefully some Sorento owners out there can respond?

My friend just purchased a 2014 Honda CRV and it came with the remote start. However he does not like it as when he uses the remote start it also unlocks all of the doors? He is concerned that this is not safe and items could be removed from the vehicle before he gets to it. The vehicle can not be driven as when you touch the brake the engine shuts down without the keys inserted in the ignition. However with push button start does this safety factor come into play?

Do the Kia remote starts unlock the doors on the Sorento when activated?

Thanks

All remote starter systems kill the engine if you press the brake pedal befor inserting the key, even the push buton ones. The Kia remote starter has you lock all the doors before it will remote start it and they stay locked.

Keep in mind that the Kia remote start is NOT a factory option. It is port or dealer installed and adds a second key fob that must be used in addition to the Kia fob.

I have never heard of a remote start (factory or aftermarket) that unlocks the doors when it starts. That would somewhat defeat the purpose of it.

Yeah what good is remote start that unlocks the doors...perhaps there is a setting that can be changed on the Honda starter to keep the doors locked.

If you have the smart key equipped vehicle and install the Kia remote starter system your oem smart key can also be used to remote start the vehicle. You just loose the two way function of the remote starter system.

Maybe you could explain what you mean here?

Are you saying that you can remotely start the Sorento with the OEM keyless fob and not have to use the remote start fob???

Two types of remote start. One you push the button, it sends a signal and hopefully the car starts. On a two way remote the Key FOB and the car talk to each other and let the remote know that start has successfully executed and also relays the status of your doors, locked or unlocked. You can also install an option to be able to remote start you car via you cell phone from the other side of the world. It is an extra cost option and usually requires a fee or 80 dollars a year (give or take) to have a cell number to answer the call you place. A two way remote you can look at the FOB and confirm if you remembered to lock your doors as it communicates that information to the fob. If you don't want the 2way features you can have the smart key send a signal to remote start, but you have no idea if it worked. The two way communicates successful start and a timer counts down the time remaining for the engine run.

Is the Kia dealer installed remote start a 2 way or one way?

Okay Thanks

Just curious;

When you start the vehicle with the remote it does NOT unlock the doors right?

When you touch the door button of the locked vehicle does the engine shut down when the door unlocks?
