Battery problem

I bought a 2014 Sorento EX Touring about two months ago. My family went on vacation leaving Thursday and coming back Tuesday so the Kia sat idle in the garage for almost a week. My wife tried to start the Kia for the first time today (Wednesday) and it was dead. She called for service and they jumped it. It didn't seem she had left anything on to drain the battery and she asked if there was a problem. The guy said no, this is normal if you don't run the car for a few days.

I am going to call our dealership but it seems to me that a new car with a new battery shouldn't be engineered to have it completely drain after a few days without running. I know there are a lot of electronics in this car but still. Any thoughts as to what is going on?

Sounds like there was either a light on, or some accessory plugged in while you were away. Or there's a short somewhere in the system. Either way a battery won't go flat in a week without something draining it.

That's what I thought. I am going to check things out with the car to see if there's anything on I don't know about. If not, I'll call the dealer tomorrow.

BTW, been to PEI; it's beautiful.

I just had the same thing happen .. car was only in garage for a day and I KNOW nothing was left on .. battery was dead .. car was dead. Dealer could not jump it. Had it towed to dealership. They installed new battery and sent me home with no explanation. Did you find out anything? I am going to start a new thread.

There is a lot of electronics in new cars and they do not get "shut off" with the key out.
They stay "on line" but in a reduced power state...They can drain the battery but usually will have enough battery to last for at least a week...
There have been posts about the "quality" of the Rocket brand batteries being used in the newer KIAs and also about their sudden failures...You may have had one of the questionable ones...

Thanks Dave ... any more info on the "Rocket" batteries ... I'll Google it ... but thought I'd ask.

This is unfortunate. My 2014 just did the same thing. Not good considering I live in Edmonton and it can get quite cold here... then again, we park underground and it still died after not driving it since Thursday evening. It is now Monday evening. Ridiculous if you ask me.

If they can jump it, will the dealer still replace the battery?

As posted earlier, I was away for 5 weeks, about 6 weeks after had picked up the Sorento. I had no difficulty starting the car on my return.
