So a Car took away our right of way. Not our fault. Air bags deployed and car absorbed the crash energy well. Insurance company declared Kia a total. No broken bones.

So..will begin search for a new car. Sat in new Sorento and not initially impressed with what they did. I will post what I eventually get. If not Kia I may be signing off the forum. Should know in a few weeks.

Will keep folks posted.

And I must say that I am pleased with Kia crash protection engineering. :)

Mine was two years ago, DUI lost control of his camaro in the wet and I was able to avoid a head-on, hit my side and spun me off the road. Only side impact airbags went off - as it should be. I was totally unharmed. My 2011 EX had only 45k on it. I bought a 2015 SX.

Why not go with a leftover 2015 if you don't like the 2016?

Just to update.

I purchased a 2017 Hyundai Tuscon Limited with AWD and turbo. It rang all the bells.

Mrs Lanyard of course was very concerned about safety features...it has the comprehensive safety package including Automatic Emergency Braking.

Hopefully, she will never need the features :)

^^^^ Regarding moose accident - Having lived in Alaska for 7 years, I saw several car/moose impacts. Those moose have looonnnng legs and most of their body mass is higher than the hood of most vehicles except HD pickups. I'm guessing (and it is just a guess) that on impact, the legs were the only thing that made contact with the front bumper and grille. The torso and head (90% of the mass) probably impacted the windshield area. Don't know if that would trip the front airbag sensors or not.

Kind of like what happened here:

I have heard the turbo's don't deliver good millage by other OEM builds as well. Useless for towing and motor not good for the long term buyer. Hipe

I bought two new to us vehicles within a year and search for 6 months or more for both.

Key criterias were a V6 min ~300HP
- automatic and NO CVT transmission
- min 3500lb tow rating
- AWD or equiv
- seats 5 adults (even wider bodied ones 6ft tall)
- engineering aspects access to oil filtr etc

This eliminates a lot out there not as most lines are pushing 4 cylinder engines. Even RAV 4 which is too big for a 4 as well IMO.

I just returned from a trip to Ottawa and area. The Sorento go an average of 30MPG Canadian which included driving around Ottawa and Gatineau QC for a couple of days !! NO Air conditioning was used.

My Highlander 4WD 3.3L 2012 was the first one I bought for myself and gets 27MPG pretty consistently in mixed driving. I have yet to do a dedicated highway calc without any town/city driving but the Sorento is clearly much better with readings by the computer in the 8.x - < 9L/100 on the dash until I mix in enough town driving it breaks into the 9.x area.

This is excellent in both cases especially that the Highlander is a 5 speed Auto and the Sorento is a 6 speed auto transmission.
