I have a 2014 Sorento SXL (4100 Miles) and have an issue with the navigation system. It will not allow me to enter the names of any states that begin with "C". When I push the C on the keyboard I can briefly see the names of the states (Calif, Colo, Conn) but they only flash and there is not enough time to push any of them. The display then tells me to insert the SD card and that some required data may be missing, etc. I have to shut down the car and open the door to get that display to clear. When I start the car up again and try to enter any other state (other than a "C" state) the navigation lets me enter anything I want with no weird screens or freezes. I'm in California and want to find a location in California.
I have removed and replaced the SD card and have reset the system using the reset hole on the upper right of the panel. This has been done multiple times with no change. Stopping and starting the car has no effect on the problem. All other functions of the UVO seem to be normal and I can ask it to show saved locations such as home and it works fine.
I can't contact the dealer until Monday and need to use the system tomorrow so I hope someone out there has a suggestion to correct the problem. Thanks in advance for any help that you may be able to provide.
Strange issue. I have the same car with no issues. Sounds like a problem with the SD card. The issue is, when I bought my car there was not card and it took several days for them to order and receive one.
There is a TSB for this. The resolution requires a new SD card with version 9.0 on it (you have 8.5). There is no other fix or workaround. It takes approximately 2 days to get the card in once the technician opens a techline case with it. The following is a copy and paste directly from the TSB.

I checked my version and it is included in the bad batch. When I purchased the car (new) in April of 2015 the selling dealer had lost the original SD card so they had to order a new card (along with a bunch of other stuff that they had "lost" in order to supply all of the items that are to be included on a new Sorento SXL. That is why a 2014 vehicle had an SD card in it that was supplied by KIA during the dates included in the 2015 TSB.
Thank you very much for researching this issue for me. I never would have known about it without the forum's help.
I spoke with my local dealer (not the seller) and they will be working on getting a new card for me.
It has been 3 weeks since I advised the dealer that I have one of the defective cards. They just keep saying that it will be another week, another week, etc. How long does it take KIA to make some SD cards? This is getting ridiculous.

It took almost 7 weeks until they got new one for mine. I believe that Kia wants to ship them once around the world first, to make sure that the cards had a chance to see all the different countries!
So the dealer called and said to come in and pick up the replacement card. I drove the 20 miles, he put in the new card and nothing! The screen said the data was incorrect. He went to the new car side of the dealership and pulled SD cards from 2 new 2015 Sorentos. The results were the same. He made some calls and it turns out that there are 4 versions of the cards. We tried 3 without success so I have to wait longer for the correct version to be shipped from KIA. Even though my dealer had a screen shot of my navigation screen, KIA did not know which version to send. Hopefully the replacement card arrives soon. I did not buy a car with on-board navigation that forces me to use my old Garmin GPS for driving.
Not the dealers fault, it's a Kia problem. My dealer had to reorder mine, too, because Kia shipped the wrong one first.
Somehow, Kia seems not to have that customer service thing under control yet.
My understanding is that the SD card also contains the firmware for the head unit, so wouldn't the new card should be used to reflash the entire system, making the map data "correct"?
If the original selling dealer (not the one that is assisting me currently) had not "misplaced/lost/?) the original SD card that came with the vehicle none of this would be happening. They (selling dealer) had to order me a replacement card and there lies the problem. KIA had some tracking on that original card that tied it to my VIN number the replacement was "generic" and thus KIA's records were not accurate for replacement purposes. The dealer I'm using now is great and has assisted me with several things that the selling dealer messed up, including having a shoddy alarm company install a system that I did not have any knowledge of. The wiring literally fell apart 600 miles from home and placed the car in a no-start condition and I had to piece it back together by the side of the road. I insisted on a total removal of the altered wiring harness under the dash and replacement with OEM new harness. That has been done (by my "good" dealer) and the selling dealer and alarm company paid a bill of over $2000 for that job.
I like the car, but the hassle to make it just meet the factory specifications has been a hassle.
Still waiting for the replacement card. KIA corporate customer service called me and said that it is being shipped from the manufacturer and that they have no control on the timing of the delivery. She said that it may be at the dealer sometime next week. The must be made in a cave by a one-armed blind guy. The old Garmin GPS is getting a workout.
I take that back. A one-armed blind guy would have been capable enough to somehow accomplish this task by now.
Update: KIA Customer Service (not the dealer) called me again and advised that they are still waiting for the SD card to arrive from the manufacturer (KIA does not produce them). They have no estimated time of arrival. Has anyone else experienced this particular issue? Two months to wait for a simple SD card is beyond incredible.
The dealer is doing everything they can to resolve the issue. They have made multiple calls to KIA. The problem is that KIA Customer Relations is handling the whole thing and they don't seem interested in fixing an issue caused by their product. I have asked the dealer today to push a lot harder on KIA to get the problem fixed soon. Using a small portable GPS that does not have up-to-date maps sucks! The alternative is to use cellphone GPS and get hit with data charges.
Update: Success!!! I finally have the correct SD card installed. My dealer made the extra effort to try to remedy the problem that KIA Customer Service could not. My dealer contacted the Engineering Department of the company that makes the KIA navigation and spoke directly to the engineers. KIA Corporate would not do that. They just kept taking the manufacturer's delaying answers. Between my dealer and the manufacturer's engineers, the problem was resolved. Kudos to Allstar KIA in San Bernardino, California for going the extra mile for the customer. And they were not even the selling dealer.
